Hi,
Me and my boyfriend are going to Nottingham in June and need to find a decent but not too expensive, and central, hotel for one or two nights.
Going to see Boyzone on the first night at the Trent FM Arena and then to see Paramore at Rock City the following night.
Any tips?
Also, any advice on things to do in Nottingham would be great, going to make it a good couple of days away.
Have had a quick look around on laterooms and tripadvisor but lots to look at. So any advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Janine
PS We plan to drive to Nottingham, so hotel with parking would be best.

Best advice, wear an anti-stab vest! The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Don`t believe stoneman. A good one to try is the holiday inn at castlebridge retail park. It`s not too far from town and it has parking. Not far from the train station is Jurys inn and also there are premier inns around there too. The castle is worth a visit and also Wollaton park if it`s a nice day. There`s some nice bars along the waterfront which is near to the courts. Shopping is ok in the victoria centre but there is a good new shopping centre in Derby called The Westfield centre. If you need any more info, you can pm me as I forget which boards I have visited!0

Space Rider,
Thanks for your reply. Going to have a look around at your suggestions and see what can be found. Will pm if any more info required, thanks for the offer.

Stupid.
Back to Nottingham ...
Most of the hotels in Nottingham have parking, but you will pay extra. The cost of a taxi to and from an out of town hotel would make it better value to pay to park at a city hotel.
The Jurys Inn is a very nice hotel, but not particularly central. The Holiday Inn Express is very central, just off the Market Square. You also have the Crowne Plaza and the Hilton nearby (of the three I would recommend the Express). There is also a Premier Inn, which would be v convenient for Rock City, and you could nip on the tram to the Arena from there (£2.30 each for a day ticket, or £1.20 for a single).
If you want somewhere cheaper, there is a new Ibis hotel. I don't know anyone that was stayed there yet, so I can't comment on what it is like.
As Nottingham has one of the best shopping areas in the UK now, I don't know why anyone would suggest going to Derby! Victoria Centre is the better of the two shopping centres, but there are also lots of other shops around the rest of the city centre, centred around Clumber Street and the Market Square.
You can have a great night out in Nottingham, but Rock City and Boyzone are pretty diverse, so I'm not sure where to suggest! I would say to go to the Lace Market/ Hockley for the Boyzone night, and then Rock City (you can stay in there all night) and the pubs around there that night (if you like students?).
Enjoy! xGone ... or have I?0 -
We recently stayed in Colwick Hall Hotel, which is near the greyhound/race track. About 5 minutes drive from the centre of Notts and has the bonus of free parking. The Hall is stunning and used for weddings and functions. Rooms in the hotel were lovely. We got 2 nights from Late rooms for £59 per room per night.
Taxi from Colwick is about £5 but there is a bus to the greyhound track, though we didn't use it!
We then parked in the Broadmarsh Shopping centre- On sunday it is all day for £4.50 and in the evenings after 5pm on weekdays it is £3 all evening. Don't park during the day because the prices are scary!
I've heard the Jurys Inn is clean and great value for money but parking is what is going to sting you.
The shopping is great in Notts, definately don't need to go to Derby!Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560 -
The Juries Inn next to the station and Hooters is fine, but my life it is soul less!
The Hilton is smack bang in the centre of the city and has its own (limited) parking which I would recomend. As others have said, the Holiday Inn next to Sainsburies is nice- although I only know of this one through work collegues as this is where they are usually put.0 -
Stupid am I? I live in Nottingham and see it all the time, crime is rife here, more stabbings on a Saturday nite than anywhere else,(according to Govt. statistics) and don't get me started on the guns, its a s**t hole. Bloody students spewing all over the place at nite. Do you know we have a street in Lenton that is the most burgled in the country, everyone of the 50 houses has been broken into. The police are worse than useless here.
Now for somewhere to stay. Have a look at Laterooms.com a few days before you go, for your money, Rutland Square Hotel usually comes out at about £55 inc. buffet breakfast, just next to the Castle and easy walking to everything (and I did the marble floors) and you can park there all the time you are in town for £5. Premier Travelinn on London Road is really close to the Ice stadium, as is Jurys Inn, but if you are going out after the concert you will be heading away from them so will need to get a cab back. Park Plaza is my favorite but will set you back about £85, the Crowne Plaza is nice to, but the Hilton is over rated. The best area in Nottingham to avoid the trouble is the Lace Market for a night out, nice bars and well to do people. There is a brand new Ibis just opened right in the middle, its only about £50 on weekends, but you will have to find parking I think, give them a ring.
Note. What ever you do , do not park on double yellows at any time in the city, you WILL be liftedThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
If you live in Lenton stoneman, it's no wonder you see crime. It's nasty!
Most of Nottingham is lovely, every city has bad areas. stoneman lives in one of Nottingham's worst!Gone ... or have I?0 -
the jurys inn is very handy for the train station if you change your mind and use the train
nottingham...no thanks, lived there and glad i have moved away, but having said that i know a lot of people who live in nottingham and they never mention any problems or particularly worry about living there, and i expect there are many contented families who live in bagdad too:rotfl:0
