Thanks El4L, he's not charging to come out and have a look (well, I guess he might include his petrol in his expenses if we do go ahead), but if I'm not happy with him, I'll have a look at that.
He says his expenses are generally between £40 - £70, so not too excessive. We need to be really sure before we go ahead though, because we will be borrowing against the house to pay for the plans (only temporarily), and then borrowing massively against the house (permanently) to pay for the extension itself.

[strike]
Get a tape measure out and measure the gap between the side of the house and the boundary, to see how far out we could build. I've drawn a rough plan of what we want so I just need to see if it will fit.[/strike] Done
[strike]Read Martin's contact lens guide[/strike] and make an appointment somewhere. Part done
Clean living room and wash sofa cushions. Part done - no point doing the rest until kids in bed
[strike]Make a meal plan to prove to Stu we can survive until Tuesday without going shopping[/strike].
[strike]Find and ring an architect[/strike]. Done
Empty out the drawers in our wardrobe, find somewhere to put the stuff, and move Natasha's clothes into the drawers (she is becoming a permanent occupant of our room until the extension/house move, because Ryan really needs his own space at the moment).
Try to sort out a holiday, although that might not happen becuse Stu has booked the wrong week off work and neither of us can change our holidays now. Going to be soooo gutted if we have spent all that money on the camper and we don't get to use it at all this year. Can't do until Stu comes home but I've found a campsite not too far away that would do for a long weekend.
Eeek, where did today go - almost time for picking Ryan up and I've not done anywhere near what I wanted to. I blame Natasha, she has been distracting me with her cute laughter whenever I broke off to play building blocks with her!

Phew, and i thought i was busy.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Okay, this is the plot shape (house is the red square obviously....lol):
This is downstairs (the green bit is the extension):
And this is upstairs:
The wall with the bathroom door in it (the wall that is slightly bluey turquoise on the picture - but the whole wall, not just the blue bit) would have to be removed altogether to create a landing, and then the stairs can go straight up instead of curving round (existing staircase shape in black, with new shape in red), and will then finish in what is now the bathroom (all the yellow coloured bit will be landing). Then the green bit is again the extension.
We could just take a chunk off the bathroom to do it, but it would leave us with a really small bathroom, and no natural light on the landing, so I thought it was best to move the bathroom into the extension, although that will be a bit more expensive. But we have to find a balance between cost-cutting and creating a house we will want to live in forever (as it will take us forever to pay for it).
And I am going to steal your plans...if we ever do ours:p they are pretty much what I would do:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
