I read in Computer active magazine a few weeks ago about software for sale that looks for the music you want on radio stations worldwide playing it, and copies it from there, which it says is legal.
it cost around £20 and I'm looking for a copy of the article if anyone gets the magazine.
It's issue number 211 or 212 I think0 -

Their is a free program called IRATE radio, which sounds like it works on the same principle, I havent tried it myself but I'm sure you could find with a search engine.0 -

There's 1.50 through Greasypalm - I signed up and got the money with no problems.
It's not bad - good quality mp3's and a good website but I found it didn't have enough variety for my tastes.
Cheers,
Keith
** Looks like it's 3quid now - used to be 1.50 ! **0 -

Hey Koko - wise words my friend glad we are in agreement !
As regards the legal issues I found this on the BBC from March
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4328269.stm
Today on the guardian
http://arts.guardian.co.uk/netmusic/story/0,,1791125,00.html
Personally I dont understand how paid for downloading could be an offence - surely its when you share it that it's ilegal?0 -
Another BBC article today. Basically, a BPI lawyer say that users of the "russian site" are breaking the law.
What you have to remember is what the BPI say is just their opinion - they have no more legal authority, and their opinions are no more valid, than any member of the public. The BPI have also claimed that the following are illegal:- Ripping CDs to an mp3 player
- Buying music CDs from abroad (eg. amazon.com rather than amazon.co.uk)
- Buying online from a site in another country (eg. Itunes USA)
- Buying online from a site hosted in Europe (despite the single market!)
Their opinion is based on the belief that since they haven't "licensed" (ie. taxed) the CD you bought, or song you downloaded, for distribution in the UK, then bringing it into the UK is copyright/trademark infringement, and therefore illegal. For businesses they may be right (since Tescos lost their jeans case), but for general members of the public they're wrong.0 -
Slightly off topic but:
The music industry has been ripping us off for years. Charging the UK far more than others just because they can. And they dont like the fact that some are getting their own back. If they were fair maybe people would not be so happy to use P2P etc. They are just getting a taste of their own medicine0 -
Thanks..............great reading..............Use your judgement, and above all, be honest with yourself.I walk with the world & the world walks with me!I don't make bad choices!!! Other people just fail to see my GENIUS !!!!0

Found it - very annoyed - peer to peer file sharing is only legal if you have copyright to share - most music files are from other peoople's computers and are not legal to share. They also stated one price on the signup sheet and doubled it when i completed the transaction with no warning - which i believe is also illegal0
