Yep Ive found the running has done wonders...mainly to my thighs (which is good, my god they need toning!)

Bet the CAB are so pleased to have you on board. I predict you'll be running the show at your office within 2 years! Wonder if I can get odd at the bookie and make some money?

Oooh how exciting/confusing. Had a letter from the OU. Apparently within 10 days we'll have a grant of £390 in our bank account for the 'personal computer and internet access grant'. From what I gather £250 of it has to be spent on a computer so looks like we're getting a new one! lol! Already got my eyes on one from Dell with an inbuilt tv tuner :rotfl: (Shame it's £379 and would take up all of the grant! lol!) Thing is we've already got a laptop but it would be lovely to have one for my own personal use that's not full of crap and Ste's random files slowing it down all the time. lol
Have had to email the OU to clarify what everything can be spent on but I know that £140 is definately ours to reimburse our internet costs :D Wonder what I'm going to do with that...:

Also apparently I'll be getting up to £250 course grant soon :D

Can you not fudge it instead of buying a new laptop?
Can you send in the receipt for your current one? Or if you know someone who wants one, buy it for them and have them reimburse you?

£240 would clear the egg card.

I know. Our current laptop we got free with my mobile contract. I did wonder whether it would be possible to buy one then return it but that would be REALLY immoral. lol

That's the point - if you had your own laptop you could take your course work into the CAB and ask for advice, take it to any tutorials/summer schools/upstairs away from the kids to work/to the library.... If it would help even a little with the long term career plans, remember this is your time and shot at a decent career...

I have to say, I don't think you really got it free. You got it with the mobile phone contract, but if you hadn't got it free with the mobile phone contract you would have paid far less for your mobile phone and an equivalent minutes plan.

You have spent the £240 on the laptop, you've just spent it before you got the grant. This £240 is just paying yourself back for it.

True. But the £250 has to buy a new laptop. And I can't see much other way of getting round it and I don't want to end up in trouble.

I agree with barnaby bear......the money, whilst useful for a million and one other things, is intended to get you through this course.

While you have the cash (well, once you receive it!), use it for stuff that is needed for the course.

You would hate it if, say in 3 months, you found that a second laptop would be useful, or some books or a tutorial were needed, but that you did not have access to money to be able to pay for them, and they had to go back on the cards.

Believe me, I have been there and done that, and am still paying back.......put the money away separately and use it for what it is intended for!
