For dark circles try eyessential. I had a demo when it was on offer in Debenham's but didn't get round to buying it. Within minutes the diiference was noticable. It also firms the skin. The effect lasted a few days.

Not sure how much it was but it was extremely effective. It is sometimes available on Ideal World.
Thanks for the tip, but have just googled it and it seems to be about £30 (though it does look very good)...on Ideal World. Not sure it should go on the list on the forst post of this thread- maybe would be better on the other cosmetics thread?

I want to mention the Barbara Daly range for Tesco. Her foundations are gorgeous.

For anyone who likes Palmers but isn't keen on the smell, you can get an unscented version - or (even better IMO) olive oil formula.

I use aqueous cream for washing - very cheap (around £2-3 for a huge tub) and good for your skin.

I stupidly bought this thinking that because it was fragrance free it might not set my allergy-ridden skin off again, how wrong I was! It actually burnt my skin as soon as it touched it and I had to dive in the shower to wash it off

I am so jealous of all the moneysaving items everyone recommends, unfortunately they all seem to contain things that make me flare up

For dark circles under eyes The Body Shop's lightening touch performs just as well as YSL Touche Eclat and it's only £11!
It lasts for ages too and it really brightens up the eye area.

Can I ask the two posters who have just recommended alternatives to Touche Eclat... have you tried the real thing as well? Just curious as to whether you're comparing them both as an actual user.

    Thanks :)

Seconding your "oil for oily skin" theory - I haven't used this exact method but I use an oil-based cleansing bar from Lush and it's sorted out my spotty skin far better than any oil-stripping product ever did.

In other news, Tesco concealer is fantastic. Most (Caucasian) people have yellow tones to their skin, so most concealers are too pink for them. But Tesco's is yellow-based, so it's really natural. It's also a great texture for both eyes and spots, and lasts really well both in the face and in the box. And it's cheap!

another one for using oil to combat oily congested skin. Unfortunately is not a cheap fix as I use Decleor Ylang Ylang Oil - its wonderful how it balances my skin

I am a HUGE fan of Lidl's Iseree range.
Their cleanser is £1.79 for a big pump-action bottle (250ml) - it comes in Normal and Sensitive varieties and they are both good. Once I went in and they had it on offer for half price!!
About 2-3 pumps is enough to cleanse your face so it lasts ages.
The texture is nice and creamy. In fact it is so rich that towards the end of the bottle you can't pump any more out, you can then unscrew the pump and dilute what's left slightly with warm water, a quick shake and you have enough to last a few more weeks.
The only negative comment I have is that when I get it on my lips it does make them dry, so I would suggest avoiding the lip area.
They also do face cream and cleansing wipes but the cleansing milk is my recommendation, I haven't tried the others.
  • Congrats on the mention in Martin's e-mail HarryHarp!

Does anyone use Palmers for their face?

My skin is pretty dry and flakey (in patches) and I've just just started to use a teeny amount of Palmers Cocoa Butter on my face at night. I'm wary at the moment 'cos It's easily heavy enough to clog my pores and give me break outs... but it's been 5 days and so far so good! :j

Feels like an oil slick if I put a bit too much on though, so tread lightly!

Read above for what I said earlier about their facial moisturiser, I'm desperate to try it... but just can't find it at a price I'm willing to pay.

Went and bought MEMEME cheek tint today from Superdrug - it's really good and not at all tacky to the touch which I've found with some cheek stains - so thanks for the recommendation!

Whilst I was there, I also bought MEMEME highlighter which is in the same kind of bottle but a little bit cheaper. It gives a really nice sheen, more golden than pink... I'll report back on whether it lives up to the cheek tint in terms of being a decent Benefit copycat.
don't blow out other people's candles to make your own burn brighter...
  • Hi, Go cosmetics are really good value for money, they do a good range of colours and I get mine from my local market or on ebay. The gel eyeliners are really good and easy to apply and my favourite has three colours, black , green and gold in one pack. I like their eyeshadows (little pots like bourjois) and mascaras and my daughter who is 16 and trendy loves them for up to date trends.
They sell them at silly prices on ideal world etc. and they are made by a high priced cosmetics company.
Rimmel lipsticks get my approval too.

Wasn't that Aldi Touche Eclat thing just one of their temporary offers, along with the Lacura serums? Or is it something that's supposed to be part of their regular stock? Looks interesting, as the reviews on the other thread are pretty good.

btw- I haven't found anything yet that's good enough to cover my dark circles...even the famous Touche Eclat, which I find very 'chalky'.

Anyone know of any fantastic concealers which are not expensive?

I'm not the best on beauty products, but if it's the concealer pen we had at £3.49 then it was a special on 7th February. I'd be amazed if anywhere still had them, even in one of the biggest stores we'd have reduced it to clear space by now. You might get lucky and find somewhere that hasn't cleared out yet though, in which case it'll be cheaper. As for it being an "Aldi rip-off" of another product as someone claimed, you'll probably find that like most of the stuff we sell (and most supermarket own brands to be fair) it's made by a large brand and rebadged. It might not be Touche Eclat but I imagine it'll be from one of the big names.

Re: the 1.89 face cream - The initial problem was because without warning it was recommended in a magazine and sales went from 300 units across the UK a week to either 10,000 or 20,000 which meant our advance orders were knackered. We've had a steady stock (fast moving but with no supply issue) for a few weeks now so it seems to have been sorted. The example above I can only assume was due to underordering by the store or a late delivery from their warehouse to them.

NB: Although stating I work for Aldi my posts are from my experiance and may not be reflective of the company as a whole. Any opinions contained within are also my own and not those of the company. (I think that covers it)
