been given about 4Kg of black berries, been told they are blackcurrants. They are about half a centimetre across and are mostly black. The bush had pale green leaves. Each bunch looked more like about four bunches of grapes together. They are all still on the stalks and the stalks are red. Are these blackcurrants? and/or edible? Don't want to take they chance!!!!! Please help.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. hi unixgirluk
i'd have a look at google images to see if they look like blackcurrants, it doesn't sound like they are to me but I'm very much a novice!!0 -
Post a picture? They sound a bit more like elderberries.
Don't eat them unless you're sure! My brother ate two deadly nightshade berries before he checked - thankfully it takes 10 or so to kill you...0 -
It's a bit late for blackcurrants. Mine were over by early August0

Sound like elderberries to me too but check for an on line picture to compare as suggested.0

I'm not convinced now but I've posted a picture. If anyone knows please let me know. I put a 5p piece in the photo to give an idea of the size of the berries.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
