As for your phone contract, has your network changed it call prices recently? If it hasn't you can't use that as an excuse to get out of it.

You could try calling them and tell them how hard up you are and can't afford the contract and won't be able to pay them, can they swap you to a cheaper tariff. Or you could tell them that you've had to have a pace maker fitted and now can't use a mobile phone so you are appealing to their compassionate side and asking to be let out of the contract.
