could/should you make a charge if buyer wants to collect instead of P&p?

I would only allow collection if they pay by cash.
I usually add 50p-£1 on my postage for packaging and paypal fees as i don't see why i should be charged to receive a paypal payment!
God you pay enough on ebay already!!0 -
I have had items collected from my house before. Usually the buyer emails to ask if they can collect ('cos they're local) and gives their phone number so we can contact each other by phone and arrange a time for collection. Never had any problems. I wouldn't charge for collection when the buyer's already used petrol, spent time getting to my place, made a phone call etc. A bit grasping in my book. And don't get me started on people who say they 'want to make a bit on postage'......grrrr, my personal hate!!!!0

item A listed at 50p.
listed postage at 42p (1st class large letter).
insertion fee = 10p
final value fee = 4p (they round up)
paypal fees = 24p (they round up)
packaging = 20p (best I can find is 5 pack @ 99p)
postage = 42p.
total profit? minus 8p.
now my personal hate is people who don't get this and complain if anyone dare charge more than the price on the postage sticker/stamp. if every seller charged that much, many people would make an overall loss on their items, and no one would ever use ebay to sell. I can understand people annoyed at clearly excesive charges, but if you fail to understand that a sellers needs to at least make back all fees to bother listing (with the above that would be at least £1.00 for what appears to be a 42p postage cost) then frankly i'd rather you never bought from me.0 -

Couldnt agree more EXCEPT the OP clearly asked how to make PROFIT on their P+P....0 -
Firstly, I was thinking about people who would charge £5 postage for a single dvd in a padded envelope because as a seller of many years I know what that would cost. Ebay is a hobby for me - when it got so serious that I was factoring in my time then I'd think about starting a real money making business! - and a way of getting rid of stuff we don't want or need so anything I make is a bonus. Secondly, you should perhaps think about listing your items at a higher price or just accept that with ebay you win some and you lose some. I would never pay postage that looks to be overinflated unless it was an item that I was absolutely desperate for - luckily for you it's highly unlikely that it would ever be anything to do with xbox1 so you would never have to suffer me as a customer. What a relief for both of us!0
