Best course of action is to ask for cash on collection.

Or has that been banned by ebay now too?

(everything that does not earn ebay extra money seems to get banned?)

yes cash on collection is best but shortly ebay will make everyone offer paypal on all listings

so i'm not sure what you are meant to do if an item is for collection only and someone want to pay by paypal - as you will not be able to provide paypal with online trackable proof of delivery in the event of a claim

Although many ebayers are disturbed, and a small minority axe murderers, most are normal people like you and me (!), so don't be too afraid of them coming round your house to collect things.

i've had lots of things collected from my home, no problems at all. on all but one occasion my boyfriend has been here too. wouldn't want someone collecting something expensive if he wasn't here too though

Offer, NOT accept - Subtle wording by eBay there...

I still don't get why this is a problem. Someone wants to collect, they can, if they want to collect AND pay by Paypal, they can't. I can't see why anyone would complain at having to pay cash for something they are receiving on the spot, they don't need the security of Paypal.

I wouldn't want to have what effectively is a stranger coming to my house, so would prefer to just advertise as post only. I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't be alone when the person came to collect, and of course who does want to wait in all day?

Obviously if it was a large item I might have to think again, but you can arrange your own courier.

I think for me, the point is I am selling and these are my conditions. I may not sell for as much or as often, but I don't think that not offering collection will make that much difference.

Bet the postie is a stranger. Bet the meter reader is a stranger. Bet the kid at the door selling raffle tickets is a stranger. Bet the taxi driver is a stranger.
    etc:p

Not worth worrying about stuff like that, common sense is all you need. People worry about having to wait in all day but you'd have to for a courier. You could even get the person to meet you at work or tesco when you're down getting your shopping.
When selling stuff that's being collected I usually meet at a local car aprk etc to save them having to find my house. I love getting paid cash

I've also bought & collected loads of ebay items from all over the UK, though usually cos I'm buying big stuff like wheels engines motorbikes etc :o

This is correct if the buyer paid by PayPal you must send it via a trackable service. If the buyer collects after paying by PayPal he/she can then say that they have not received item and they will get their money back from PayPal.

I do not have the choice so it is not an "offer". Yes I have been forced into "offering" Paypal but I have to accept that I have no choice by Ebay.

personally I sometimes offer to pay sellers a little extra to cover fees when asking to collect. as a seller, although it would be nice to cover the ~15% ebay fees (up to 9% final + fixed insertion which can be a large percentage when selling small value items), i never ask for anyone to do so. i just see it as this - if you can attract another bidder to your item it's going to end up going for more than it would have without them, in which case hopefully you'll make back whatever fees you had to pay with the extra they paid :D

    Another q - sorry!

a bidder has asked if they can pick up item - still starting price of 99p with 3.99 p&p. Was hoping to get at least £5 for item and make about £1.00 on P&P. have a few items which look like they will only go for the starting price - one guy is bidding on 3 items & wants to pick up so will make nothing at all on p&p.

obviously they will only pay winning price if they collect, so has anyone ever charged a small amount for collection? is it really cheeky to do this? feel like it is, but just thought i'd see what others think!

    thanks
