thanks for all the posts re pain relief!!... I managed to get to the class as OH arrived eventually..picked me up and got me to the class 10 mins late.. but we got there
He wasnt himself at all though and when it finished he literally drove me home and didnt stop.. hes gone out to see his mate in work (if i didnt know better id say they are having a gay love affair behind my back!) then hes going home cos he wants to be on his own
I like the sound of diamorphine and then gas and air i was scared of thought of injections before tonight but the midwife made the diamorphone sound quite appealing :rotfl: Will just have to see.. all i know is i really really really dont want an epidural, but knew that all along. I have a spinal problem as it is and dont like the thought of people putting stuff in it! Im just gutted i didnt look into the TENS thing earlier, i was under the impression we could rent or borrow from the hospital but apparently not anymore as they never got them backId have to pay £30ish to get one from boots/mothercare/llyods etc for 5 weeks.. and considering im expecting sprog any day i dont think it will be worth it?
Going to try do a bit more housework tomorrow if i can.. tackled the bedroom before while waiting for OH.. looks very presentable now as it was only really untidyJust gotta hoover and stuff tomorrow... will do my list in the morning depending how i feel.
Off for an early night i think...... alone...0 -
MIchelle Thats sound like my first labour, i had everything but for my subsequent labours i only had Gas and Air which may i add i thought i had become addicted to this stuff lol.. and it was easily managed as my labours were faster than the first. 2nd was 1 hour start to finish, 3rd 3 hours, 4th 3 hours 15 minutes.....so don't be thinking its because i am really brave i just didn't have time for any pain relief
JOhanne...if you feel you don't want the epidural you can request half a shot of pethidine rather than a full shot it can help and doesn't space you out as much. I went with my friend as her birthing partner 0n 13/2/2005 and she said that half was just enough to take the edge off along with gas and air.
Speak to the midwife when you reach hospital and tell her how you feel. She will understand what your feelign as i everyone i know sats the same thing you are saying, with my 3rd i had a better idea how to cope for myself as we are all different but if it helps i will share. I managed it purely by counting everytime everytime i got a pain i counted and rocked, when it came time to push i counted to 10 each time and didn't stop pushing until i got to 10, 5 pushes in total and he was out. It did make me concentrate and helped to take the edge off it god knows how but it did. I also told my mum and Oh that this it what i would do and they looked at me and said oh yeah or8, but then they helped by counting with me and making me focus.
Also may i just add my other friend has just given birth this afternoon to a baby girl weighing 7lb 4oz's,:T about time too she was 12 days overdue. I mentioned the other day she was getting contractions but they kept stopping and finally she was induced today. You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

I've been sorting out some of the hot spots in the family room whilst watching 'The Apprentice' - quite boring tonight I thought.
Have any of you taken part in the 'plantlife' survey before. I've signed up and got my square on the map to go investigate.
We have friends to dinner tomorrow night so I have a gammon reduced from the freezer soaking overnight. Just need to think of a quick, easy cheap pud to make.
Tomorrow plan to hoover and wipe round all of downstairs. Window sills are starting to fill up with seeds so will not be being wiped for a while.
Night allThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
OMG Sorry to throw a spanner in the works.I like the sound of diamorphine and then gas and air i was scared of thought of injections before tonight but the midwife made the diamorphone sound quite appealing :rotfl:
I was very surprised to read that they give diamorphine in labour - its derived from opium (as is heroin) and in my drug book under special precautions for Pregnancy is reads "Not usually prescribed. May cause breathing difficulties in the newborn baby. Discuss with your doctor".Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -

3. sorted out underwear:o
4. hoovered upstairs

plus a bag for charity shop.
7. organised all my pets stufftoys/food/treats
8. helped a mate pack for moving, just got in and am knackered!
Tomorrow
1. work from 10-2
2. come home clean out the poor neglected hamsters. (redo their cages)
3. finish going through the box that is left to sort,
4. go in to the loft! and get stuff ready for the dump.
5. dust room and possibly put away my nice stuff and take onebox down to go through.
6. make vets appointment

Midfwife said that it was the only time youd get a legal free dose of heroin....:rotfl:
Apparently it causes less sickness than pethidine.. and they find it more effective. She explained that depending WHEN you were givin it depends on the effect on the baby.. ... she also said how the babies can "forget" to take their first breath when its used so they stimulate them which usually works....... however worse case scenario and stimulating baby doesnt make it breathe properly they have the antidote they can give the baby which makes the effects completely wear off (i think within 5 mins she said?!) - but babies who are given the antidote are put in special care unit for 12 hours for monitoring regardless of whether they show any problems or not - just incase.0
