blacurrants in particular are not something that most people like raw, although if you liquidize the whole lot and sweeten it after then it would work better, and you could stir the custard in and call it fruit fool.
I wuld still be inclined to give it a few minutes in the pan to defrost and soften before sweetening and eating unless you want to add it to a smoothie.

We buy them all the time, berries are soooo good for you, the are considered 'superfoods' and a very low cal/carb fruit choice too!

Tesco sell them in the same nice boxes with the cardboard sleeve over as Asda . They are about £1.99 , but if you sneak a proper look nearby in the same freezer cabinet, you will find EXACTLY the same product in their discount range in a plastic bag for £1.29.

I like quite the tartness of the taste although I can understand many wouldn't. I eat them with Greek yog, nuts and honey.

They are brill in trifle, topped with sponge mixture and served with custard, or in muffins, mixed with stewed apple and used in pies and crumbles or in a compote spooned over ice cream.

Or drop a few frozen berries in vodka instead of ice cubes, the frozen mango chunks are good for this too!! Very easy way to get your 5 a day!:rotfl:

    Hi mardatha,

There's an earlier thread with some more ideas for using frozen fruit that may help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

Before I got pregnant I used them in a lovely tall glass of Pimms. Used in place of ice the keep drinks cool without watering them down.

In fact that is all I have been craving for the last couple of months.

Hope this helps some of you.

I have them for breakfast mixed with plain or fruit youghurt and some milled seeds. I also sometimes have them on porridge and also have served as a pud with meringues and cream/yoghurt/ice cream. If necessary I sweeten with splenda.

Make a fruit brulee with the berries on the bottom of the dish, then the custard. Cook in a bain marie, the top with sugar and grill until caramelized.

Don't forget, you can always make wine. Just need a bag of sugar, a tsp of yeast and a tsp of pectolase to make a gallon. :)
