We're up at the upper end for the GC. I aim to spend around £500 a month for 2 adults and 2 children. That doesn't include wine and beer. Before I started coming here, it was more like £800. We eat fairly expensive meat, and I don't usually buy value items, I also like quite exotic ingredients. But it is all cooked from scratch, within the confines of being a dual-career family with a small kitchen that doesn't have room for a slow cooker or breadmaker, and no space (or time) to grow veges. I think I must have thrown a lot away in the past, it's the only explanation of where all that money was going. I hope to cut the budget by £50 next month, and work on getting it down closer to £350.

There are massive variations here - what some people think 'a lot' I would think is frugal. But no-one judges anyone (well, not publicly, LOL). And, of course, we earn differing amounts too: we can afford to spend that money on food, and still save quite a bit each month. If we couldn't, no doubt we'd be spending less.

  • Hi everyone:hello:

I am a family of 4(me, oh, ds1,ds2), did spend between £400-£500  and sometimes more a month on food and booze. I started the GC this month and put my grocery budget down as £300 for the month, but have a seperate budget for me(for family outings/clothes etc), OH(his booze) and for gardening.
If there is any money left at the end of the month from these budgets, it will go towards christmas.

Started doing the GC as we were wasting far too much food and everything has really gone up in price, so really need to look after the pennies.
