We spend for five of us, 3 cats and a hamster who has his greens a couple of times a week! £250-£300 a month.
We don't drink though but have a takeaway curry with my sister once a month
I cook most things from scratch and homebake and try not to waste anything. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The strange thing about the Atkins diet is that people have reported that their colesterol has gone down whilst following the diet. The whole idea of it seems strange at first, but it honestly does work the only diet that I have been on where I have not felt hungrey and lost weight. Only downside is that you must follow it to the letter, any cheating (especially at the beginning) and you undo all your hard work. One more downside - its expensive to follow due to all the meat and veg!!MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. I can understand you not being hungry, as protein is very filling. But I am a great believer in a balanced diet, not TOO much of anything. Anyway we are a bit off subject now, my fault I think for asking in the first place. I was just taken aback by Tinkerbells monthly food bill. But, each to their own, no one should judge.0 -
We're somewhere between £120-£150 a month for the two of us, which I know is a litte high and I'm desperately trying to get it down a bit but OH is an absolute nightmare when we go shopping.
We shop weekly because we're both paid weekly, so I check what we already have in then meal plan for the week and write down anything we need. We also go to Aldi first and get what we can there then we have to go to Tesco for the rest. But when we're there he is constantly picking up things that aren't on the list. I can't say anything though because he pays for it all!
When he was at work a few Saturdays ago, I cooked a big lasagne, so we could have a bit that night then freeze the rest for another day, but he insisted we eat it three days running! Same with a crumble I made last week. This saturday when he's at work I'm making humus, pate and HM bread and putting it all in the freezer before he gets back to tell me otherwse. If he doesn't want it for his sandwiches for work, then it'll at least keep me going for a couple of months!
Can't change him, tried everything to persuade him0 -
Oops, I missed a week, it's between £160-£180 a month because we spend about £45 a week on average, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more.0
