Hey,

Mathematics
Do you think I have made the right choice of picking these 4 A-Levels and if all of them link with my career ideas or should I of picked I.C.T or Computing?
Thanks
Amit

Economics and Mathematics are solid, well respected subjects. Good choices (though I'm possibly biased there!).
Accounting and Business Studies are perhaps not so well respected, but there are certainly worse subjects that you could choose.
Have you thought of doing a language? It would be a very useful skill to have.
ICT and Computing are still not regarded as highly as the more traditional subjects, and would not really be relevant to business and finance.
Do you have any thoughts on which universities that you would like to apply to? For most, your choices would be fine. However for the top universities, I would stick to the more traditional subjects.
Good luck! xGone ... or have I?0 -
I wouldn't bother with business studies to be honest. Accounting would look good in the financial sector, but then unless you are going to be an accountant then it may be a waste of your time. Maybe a more solid subject such as english? or just do 3 Alevels and concentrate on them to get better results.

Accountancy at A Level is not highly regarded in the financial sector, because it does not go into any real depth. Any knowledge that is required to become an accountant is covered at university or through studying for professional qualifications.
I agree about only taking three subjects, that was the usual amount when I was at school, but it seems many take four nowadays? xGone ... or have I?0 -
If you are thinking of going on to University and know roughly what you want to do, then check the prosepctuses to see which subjects they specify for different courses. Most will not accept General Studies. I'd agree with other posters that Maths and Economics are fine but maybe do a langauge - with the global market that is probably a good bet. My DS did Hstory, Biology, French and Music and DD is doing Art, Biology, Maths and Pyschology. A broad spectrum of subjects is often better than keeping it narrow.
Best of luck !0 -
Hmmm...
I am thinking of going University of Manchester and doing a course there in Finance which I need AAB or a Business Studies course whch I need ABB. English is one of my weakest subjects and a subject I find rather boring, I am only predicted a "C" init at GCSE. My conexxtions advisor said that Accounting,Business,Economics and Maths were a good choice but He did suggest "English" but I said "No" because I find it boring. He also said that Accounting,Business,Economics,Maths are all strong and solid subjects unlike some subject like Physcology,Geology,Critical Thinking, and many others.0 -
There isn't really any point taking Economics and Business Studies together. Economics is more respected, so you might be better off taking that and something else. If you want to go to university, some see the subjects as too similarMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

Well I looked at the Subjects that would go well with my courses it said...
Accounting
Business
I.C.T
Economics
Politics
Law

Some of the "higher league" universities won't accept Economics and Business Studies because of the overlap. Might be best off asking the universities directly. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

I'd just like to add that you may do "respected" (by whom?) A-Levels and ones that would "look good" on a CV. However I would like to suggest that you do what you want to do. If you do them for just those reasons and don't enjoy them then you are stuffed. Pick things that interest you, granted some have to be in a general area for uni, but even beyond that having A-Levels proves that you can read and research to a certain level and that your level of critical thinking is higher than at school.
Hope this helps

I think you have chosen very well.ICT and computing are changing and advancing so quickly that any qualifications in those would very soon become useless anyway so best to do maybe a very short certificate course in those along with your other A levels just to show that you are competent in the latest computing and internet applications and then keep yourself updated in new technology as and when you need to.
I did computing at school in 1986,you can imagine just how usefull and impressive that is now on my CV:rotfl:"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
