http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/aptrix/ofwat/publish.nsf/Content/ConsIssue_ProblemsPayingBills_VulnerableGroupHaving problems paying your bill? Vulnerable groups scheme (WaterSure)
This scheme allows certain customers with a water meter to have their bills capped to make sure that they don't cut back on the amount of water they use because they are worried about how they will pay their bill.
In order to qualify for assistance, you or someone living in your household, needs to be in receipt of one of the following benefits:- council tax benefit;
- housing benefit;
- Income Support;
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance;
- Working Tax Credit;
- Child Tax Credit (except families in receipt of the family element only); or
- Pension Credit.
- be responsible for three or more children under the age of 19 and in full-time education living in the property; or
- have (or someone living in the property must have) a medical condition which requires significant additional use of water.
The assistance is not available if you use large volumes of water, such as water used for garden sprinklers or swimming pools.
More information on the scheme.
If you would like to apply for the scheme contact your water company.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -

Are you on a water meter? it seems high even for 5 people on a water meter but could easily reflect a 4 or 5 bed detached property in a nice area on RV (rateable value - more info on the CCwater site or Ofwat)
If you are on some benefits it applies but its not for all & not all co's will refund the difference if the capped rate is lower....I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
It seems the only way to get anywhere in this country, is to not have a job and have as many kids as possible! :mad:Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0

That's totall out of order - the water meter rebate is for people with 3 or more children. That is the criteria.
Nothing to do with being jobless.It's not paranoia if they really are after you.0 -
Just a quick warning about the "social tariff" it's a good idea whilst your on it but beware when you drop back down to just 2 children and are no longer entitled to it your in for a big shock!! My eldest went off to Uni in September so we are no longer entitled to help - My bill is now £58 per month rather than the £28 per month we had been paying!!!! Remember once they have you on a meter (for more than a year)you can't get off!

Just got my latest statement through from Thames Water and it included a leaflet which detailed their "social tariff", so at least one company is being upfront about its existence.0

Anglian Water call it Aquacare & we advertise it on our bills & have done for as long as I can remember. We have also just extended the switchback guarantee on meters (ie the time within you can convert back to unmetered charges) to 24 months from 12.:grinheart I'm getting there...... slowly but surely0
