The Water Board Won't Tell You About Their Social Tarrif!

THE WATER BOARDS LIKE TO KEEP THIS ONE REALLY QUIET!
Having 4 children I was amazed to discover that over the years I could have saved literally hundreds of pounds on my water rates.
Every area is different, but I am led to believe that all water boards offer similar schemes. Where I live in the South West they call it a Social Tarrif.
Basically, any family with 3 or more children under the age of 19 and in full time education can apply to be on the social tarrif. In a nut shell, you have to have a water meter fitted at the property, the water board 'cap' your bill at a level much lower than that of the rateable value of your property, in my case it was 300 pounds less than my water rate bill. At the end of the rateable year they read your meter. If your bill would have been higher than the rate set by the social tarrif, you only pay the 'capped' rate. If your water bill would work out less than the social tarrif 'capped' rate, they refund you the difference.
Its a win, win situation. TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW WITH 3 OR MORE CHILDREN:j

Thankyou for that, i have begun to look into this myself.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

What would make you say something like that? I have 3 children and was not aware that it was now socially unacceptable. My husband works full time to provide for our family and I dont see anything wrong in giving customers on a meter a capped rate if there are 5 or more people in the house. I think I will stick with the friendlier forums from now on.JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

That is because there is NO such thing as a social tarriff!
It is called Watersure and if anyone looks on the OFWAT website the info is there.
Also the info is available at places where it would apply to members of the public for example job centres etc it is designed for people who are in financial difficulties (jobless etc) or people who have medical conditions which require more water than the average household.
so if people look they will find these things- Incidentally it has been around for a while.i'm one of them there water board feloows0 -

I think OP was getting at the fact those that need to use more water and are metered can get a discount
"Social Tarrif" is just the generic term that gets applied to various utility tarrifs for such vunerable people.
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
