Question - Should Mortgage Brokers continue to support this Forum ??

Personally speaking I value the opinions of the brokers on this site and personally think they are the ones, with their fingers on the pulse of the market and as such their opinion is worth listening to. As on any forum or even out there in the real world the best thing to do is to listen to everyone you can then get a feel from the general concensus as to what may be good advice or not.
I agree with those who may be hacked off with people using them for advice and then dealing direct and personally speaking don't understand why people do that especially with fee free brokers.
I stumbled across our IFA through a friends Mum(she has been using him for over 25 years, for both her personal and business advice), about 7 years ago, and it is him who I go to whenever I am looking for anything, he does his research for us , puts the options to us, together with the pros and cons of each deal , I then use this information as the basis for my own reasearch.
On occaisions I have found better deals than him, I then go back to him and say what do you think of that he then advises me as to whether what I have found is better or not, if it is better I always ask him can you sort this deal for us as I would prefer to give him the commission. He has always been honest with me and on a couple of occaisions has said to me that is better than what I found but sorry I can't source that for you you will have to sort it yourself. On a couple of occaisions I have paid a couple of quid more to have him sort things for us as he takes all the hassel away from us, he knows our finances inside out.
For example our last mortgage he only had to ask us whether our incomes had changed and the outstanding amount on our mortgage and that was it, he already had all our other info, saved us acouple of hours with another broker or the bloke from the bank.
In response to the OP if you feel unhappy giving out information on here then don't, the rules for brokers are plain they can give information but it is not a place to tout for business, though personally I hope that some of you do generate a bit of business through the advice you give as Conrad says it's about doing the best by your customers both those you have and those you don't yet have, you never know who may become a future customer and where they may come from.
No disrespect to ANY of the brokers on here and I'm sure you will all agree this is a place for general advice and opinion anyone would be a fool to take the advice of an anonymous broker on a forum at face value, particularly when that broker has no information with regards to that persons personal circumstances.
Equally Martins advice should be taken at face value too, as he equally does not know everyones personal circumstances and i'm sure with the best will in the world we all get it wrong sometimes.
As my IFA always says, this is my personal opinion at the end of the day you have to make your own decision based upon the information I have provided.0 -

Yawn - how many times have we had this thread in one form or another.
If we are to post on here for no personal financial benefit, then I do not care whether people go to L&C etc. I have no need to write business from this forum so.......
Oh !!!!!!, why bother typing the same old !!!!!! again.
Just search for previous threads for my opinions on the subject folks.

The first rule of business is listen to your customers (to include potential customers).
History is littered with the relics of business's that thought they knew otherwise...............
Oh please *yawn*.
Why should I listen to c**p all day if im here trying to give general help to people I most likely am never going to do any business for......
Im not here to get business, I have plenty from my own sources thanks. If I do get any business here then great, but thats not the point in posting general advice to people is it.
Im not syaing I dont listen to people. Im saying I dont listen to the ones that rabbit on about c**p and try to shoot brokers down. The types who are NEVER going to even go to a broker anyway....0 -
I think you overestimate our importance to this forum. This forum will carry on regardless whether there are mortgage advisers here or not.
Yes, we do get a few negative posters from time to time that seem to have issues with advisers and decide to take it out on a few of us but the vast majority of regular posters are very supportive when that happens. It can be frustrating when it happens and it is all too easy to be sucked in as I well know. Despite that, a little bit of spice keeps things interesting and the mods do tend to allow a slightly longer leash in the financial forums and rightfully so as some of the best threads [for content] have come those that started with negativity.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Yaaawwwwnnnn!
To the brokers, if you want to post then please do, your contributions are generally informed and interesting.
If you don't want to post, then don't. If you feel that you are losing business by posting advice to people who would otherwise go to brokers, then don't post. Though I doubt that there are more than a handful of people a year who take information on here and use it as professional advice and therefore do some broker, somewhere in the UK, out of business.
If you feel you can get enough business from the time you spend on here to use this forum as a lead generator, forget it! It won't work and you will be quickly sussed out.
If a few brokers get the occasional lead from the great amount of help they give on here, then I have no problem with that.
BUT PLEASE DON'T ARGUE ABOUT IT!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
