A few supermarkets may have coinstar machines. Um if you have a lot and don't mind losing 8% (depends on the machine) then you shove all your coins in there and it gives you a receipt which you can then go and get cash for.
However, banks WILL take your coins as long as you have an account with them (I know this for HSBC anyway).0 -
They'll take coins no doubt, you may have to spend a whole day sorting them out into bags though!0
-
Normally you would have to bag them up in bank bags then take them to your local branch with whom you have an account, they normally weight the bags of money and credit you accordingly.0

Yes I had that once, a bag of 20ps, she said I was missing 20p when I clearly wasn't, I checked the bag twice hm, nevermind.0

I know most Asda's have the coin machine, you just tip them all in and let it sort it out for you. Be carefull though it will take a small % off you, and it will give you the opition of converting the total amount to asda shopping vouchers or a donation to chairty.0

Just get a load of coin bags from your local bank and count them up. It's very quick once you've done a couple of piles as they are all the same height, your fingers will get used to measuring them like croupiers in a casino

Give em to kiddies (or to me) to count and sort for you. Will improve numeracy and cash handling skills.
Banks do accept chumpchange, the other day a lady deposited about £50 in 2ps (was charity or something) at my local bank.0 -
I'm going to get my youngest granddaughter to sort my coin jar out in the next week or so - got the new coin bags ready. It will help her with number and money perception and at the end, when we've taken them to the bank, she'll be on a percentage.0

Larger bank branches are installing machines that sort and count coins for you now. All you do is put in a card (debit or cashcard only, I imagine). tip the coins into the machine, then walk away with a receipt for your deposit. No percentage taken, no sorting into bags, and no annoying the poor cashiers
