Do they have any charges if you want to move from them???
Prices are wery good! And competetive, but this website doen't look professional, I would not risk to have domain registered through them if you do it for your business.Have you got something to share - Do it.
When you don't know - Ask.0 -
I aint the most clued up on this sort of thing, but i was able to build my site through www.freewebs.com
I also set up my domain name through www.123-reg.co.uk cost me £2.59 per year. I dont have much on my website and i am not really sure if its the greatest value but it suits me fine and i get a website i can put on my advertising.
Hope this helps

I've used there shop to buy ink cartridges and they have offered perfect service, very very quick deliveries, not sure about web hosting but it does look like they value there customers, I might actually need them in a short while.0

From web site:
"We use high quality servers with a minimum specification of Pentium 2.8Ghz Processor and 1Gb of Ram"
LOL that bit is so funny...my desktop is higher spec. than that!0 -
size of ram, speed of processor, whilst important, are not the important issues - what type of backbone does this server sit on, what type of back up systems are there, what type of hard disk etc are they using?
Some cheap hosting companies put lots of users on one server - you then get cheap service but rubbish performance - I think this company is a re-seller - so they are supplying hosting services very cheaply - for personal websites this looks ok - at the end of the day - it's only a tenner in it!Nil illigitami carborundum... :A0 -
Just tried their domain checker - it falls down!!
looked at the about us page and graphics fail to load this looks very sloppy -
if you need support - I don't think they would be good - this is only based on my quick look at their web site.
Looking at their other site - the one selling ink etc, it uses occommerce - they could have changed the layout from the standard template - Caveat Emptor!Nil illigitami carborundum... :A0 -
that's not cheap.. that's expensive for what you get - that's minimal amount of space and bandwidth and the shocking thing is the amount of mailboxes and things - 10 isn't very many!
don't buy hosting in the UK. It's generally expensive.
US hosting is much much cheaper - it's also cheaper for .com/.org/.net etc domain names! Internet is more reliable and faster over there.. and space etc is cheaper.
I get hosting from a little company run by a couple guys over in america and they're wonderful.. http://www.apisnetworks.com been with them for ages and run all my sites with them. They have impeccible service - You just email matt (the owner) and he will fix your problem personally in a few hours.
Their basic accounts are a bit more expensive than this - about £30 but they have LOADS more space and services, and a free domain for the first year (although domains are only about £2-3 to register through them) You can pay with paypal too.
They just had a great offer but it's ended now (3rd off hosting..)but they're still worth the full price.. cheap hosting isn't necessarily good. Great service is worth paying for - i should know - as a web designer I have used many hosting companies in the past - I won't use anyone but apis anymore. They're the only one worth bothering with.

I'm a firm believer of you get what you pay for.
Cheap prices means it's likely(though not definite) a company is overselling it's space which means although they're offering X Mb on their hosting, they're hoping you don't actually use it because they don't have it there if you do(if everyone uses all their space and bandwidth).
I could be completely wrong and these companies may have fast servers in a well managed datacentre, but anyone who wants to sign up with them would be advised to check out http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ first. That's where I found my current host (BlueWho) and they've been great.
The main thing to do is email a company with a list of questions and see how long it takes to reply and what the quality of the answers are. The reason I left my first ever provider(1&1) was because their support took days to answer a support email.
BlueWho generally deals with your question in hours if not minutes(I had a ticket answered in 4 minutes once). They're expensive compared to some hosts($20/month ~£12) but they have good servers and great support.
If you're hosting a website for a business you owe it to yourself to spend a little extra, you only get one shot at a customer.I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -

Actually, a server is COMPETELY different to a PC - usually has hot swapable, redundant high speed SCSI disc arrays, fast motherboards, dual power supplies, better memory, specific OS designed to shift data and compute, no graphics, fancy backgrounds or music playing....As someone else said, bandwidth is prob more important. You can have a porsche, but you cant do more than 30 on a back street!
Our work web server is 1.8 with 1gb ram - serves up 10000 asp pages during business hours and copes ok.0 -
For hosting I recommend Ecwhost. They're a small company, but they have excellent customer support, their hosting is cheap for the incredible array of features you get. Even the basic (£2/mo) package includes 12 SQL databases, 150 email accounts, cgi, php and Fantastico to make package installing easy. You can get a full list of their packages at http://ecwhost.com/?Act=Packages0
