How about a champagne cork?Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Thriftlady - what about putting a birdbath on the spot? As long as it's not too heavy then you could move it about as required. Maybe not practical if it's not near the edge of your lawn.
PP - re the airer outside, you'd just need to pay attention in case it falls over in the breeze, though it it's against a wall it should be alright. One of my little cats (Baba who died in March last year) used to see it as a fabulous sunbathing platform and I would catch him on top of it sunning himself if I had thrown a sheet over it. He never toppled it over even though it wobbled a lot when he was getting comfy.0 -
Thriftylady, that's just like me! I think there are about 5 dotted about our lawn. The latset one was from Wilko and it has a green lid about 8cm across which covers the hole. The mower goes over it and it's easy to spot (and keeps the water out!)
If you do find your could you cover it with a cut off yogurt pot for example?Love living in a village in the country side0 -
thriftlady wrote:Does anyone know of a gadget,or have an idea that would help me find the hole in which my whirligig goes? It's somewhere in my lawn,a metal sleeve thingy, but every winter it gets 'lost' in the mud and completely heals over.
Also any bright ideas for covering it so that when it rains it doesn't fill up with water I don't spray myself with dirty rainwater when I put the pole in.
Leaving the drier in position permanently is not an option,I regard it as an eyesore in my little garden.
There's probably something really simple and obvious,so sorry if this seems a stupid question
Id personally use a flat rock, easy to move, will cover the hole and wont move in the wind, and they are usually free too! Also, it wont really be seen so it wouldnt be too much of an eyesore.

Woops - pushed the wrong button
Yes there is a gadget - called a Metal Detector - Yes I am one of those who go in the farmers field swinging a machine around hunting for gold
A cheapy one from Wilkos about £5 - kiddy toy will do the job0 -
:T Thanks for all your suggestions.
xlt hunter,we tried the kid's toy metal detectors but they didn't find it
I think a rock or a flower pot would work if it doesn't get moved by my Mum,who is always trying to tidy my garden
Thanks again0 -
I went on the argos site and they have sold out on the airer that PP has got but they have reduced the lavender one (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=3801&langId=-1&productId=158334) since I last looked so I am off in a bit to collect it!The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

After reading OS, I'm now obsessed with saving money wherever I can. My next purchase for this is going to be a clothes airer, but I've never used one before, so don't know which to get. Are the electric ones any better than the normal ones (there are some on ebay at the moment, so I can use what's left in my Paypal acc to pay for it)
I do about 2-3 loads of washing a day, with a lot of heavy stuff like jeans and towels, so my tumble dryer seems like it is permanently on!! .
Hanging it out is not an option as my neighbour has a coal fire, so we get soot in the air all the time which ruins my clothes
However I could put the airer outside on fine days when she doesn't have her fire on!
Any advice on what everyone else uses would be great! ThanksHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
