You could try something like this:

i used to have the 5 line indoor retractable washing line, but found the lines would all get out of sync, so looked really untidy.[was this just me, or do yours do that too]
i got something from woolies, in sale for about 3 pounds - think it was under a fiver full price, that looks very smart, but holds less.
it looks like a traditional door pull bell, round chrome upturned bowl, and has a very small chrome fitting the other end. very similar to what you get in hotels..but only with one line, and a tightening function, so clothes don't end up in the bath. might have a spare one if you wanted.0 -
For this suggestion you need an airing cupboard with a hot water cylinder with a shelf over, I think a lot of airing cupboards are like this.
You buy the plastic coated airing thingies that are supposed hang on a radiator but what you do in this case is hang one from the shelf, then another and another, linking them downwards like a ladder, this works well even if the cylinder is well insulated and it's all behind a closed door where no-one will see.
Even in the middle of summer I put sox and undies on mine because I can't be bothered pegging little things out0 -

Yes, I know exactly what you mean...happens to me sometimes too but I find if I let it wind back into the case - the next time I pull it out it is all even and neat again...♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
only advice i can give is plan your washing. some things (ie jeans, thick jumpers) hold a lot more water than say socks, pants and tshirts. i find that they tend to smell musty if they dont dry properly in good time. so try to wash them for the days when you know you'll be with the heating on, for example, else you'll only end up washing them again to stop them smelling mustyknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

Hmm, well my question certainly started a lot of debate.
At the moment I am convinced that there is some invention potential here.
It seems to be that we are all trying to make do in some way or another.
Living in London like many professionals who live in flats its all very difficult to manage. Granted the easy way out is to tumble everything, but hay that's not very money saving or evnviro friendly.
I'll let you know how I get on with my invention. I first need some ideas, so if you have any please PM me0 -

In more normal summers I wear just a pair of shorts around the house. It hasn't exactly been warm enough for much of this "summer".Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
