I've got one of those round things with pegs on which I hang up in the bathroom and a retractable washing line along the length of the bath. The washing line isnt really suitable for heavy items, just socks and stuff.

I dry outside when I can but it isnt always possible.

    I have this one:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8505899.htm

but bought in the sale at £10 I think. It used whenever its wet and I stick by the window and radiator witht he window open. Even the heaviest of clothes (denim etc) dries within a few hours, so no airers hanging around 24/7.

Our airing cuboard is quite small so no drying space there. We do have a TD but have been on a mission for the past 7 months not to use it as I was using it daily and needed to get my elctric useage down. Maybe use TD once a month now at most:D

It has a mesh thingy attachement that can be strapped over the edges so you can lay delicates across the top. Also there are arms that come out and you can hang upto 4 hangers on each arm for shirts etc for added room for other items IYSWIM.

Its excellent. Named it MATH as he helped me overcome my fear or not using the TD:rotfl:

hmmm, read this thread with interest - have just put all the wet clothes on the radiators after taking ages to hang them outside two hours ago only to bring them back in after it started raining!!

I have three children under 5 so almost daily washing. I've just moved and I really dont like seeing washing hanging everywhere and on days like this washing takes ages to dry unless I put the heating on!

Im looking for a tumble dryer to put in a room at the back of the garden for using on days like this - but I am worried about costs. Have seen an energy efficiency A white knight one but I think it takes ages to dry!!

So feeling a bit lost at the moment and keen to read more on this topic!!!

Oh dear I use the tumble drier all the time unless the weather is good - cannot abide the dampness from drying clothes in the house and they need less ironing if tumble dried. Sorry not very money saving or O/S

ditto :o :rotfl: except hubs work shirts which get hung up straight from the washing machine and hung from doorframes to dry

also the odd thing which ,if cant be TDed gets put on radiators

Me too I'm afraid. Tumble drier gets used all year round for socks, vests, undies and towels. I can't abide rough towels or hanging out small items. When I can't hang the rest outside I use a mixture of clothes horse(permanent feature usually) upstairs bannisters, airing cupboard and backs of doors on hangers for husband's shirts. Washing- it's almost as bad as ironing and it never ever stops!
  • Can anyone recomend a good indoor clothes airer. OH sick of clothes draped all over lounge and need something unobtrusive enough for the bedroom but spacious enough for a family of 5's laundy. Im trying desperately to avoid using the tumble dryer.
    Thanks, A x

I picked one up from a local jumble sale last year for 50p and its saved me a fortune in drying costs. Any of them are ok but see if someone is giving one away on freecycle first :)

    Hi Alison,

We have an older thread on Indoor clothes airers, so I'll merge your thread with it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together. As the posts are listed in date order, you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

This other thread might interest you too: How do you dry your laundry indoors?
