Clothes on a creel over the bath or one of those multi-corded retactable ones + 16inch fan on a stand blowing on them ( only uses 60 watts ) works for me .

    Hello Alison

Above is a link to Argos' range of airers. I've got one of those concertin foldable types, and also I have a v.simple stand which is more like a clothes rail (not available via Argos, got it in Woolies in a clearance sale ages ago), and I've got airer things on most of the radiators.

It's a personal choice which you go for of course. I find a bit of imagination is good to get as much onto the clothes airers. Eg when drying blouses, tshirts and trousers then I put them onto clothes hangers then can hang them on the drier thus getting loads more on. I also use one of those round things with lots of pegs danging from it and put smaller things like undies, tea towels, pillow cases and so on onto it, and again hang it on the bigger airer. I got mine from the Kleeneze catalogue long time ago, but I've seen v.similar in £1 shops or some of those v.v.cheap shops that seem to sell all sorts of baskets and things. Sheets and duvets covers are a bit of a pain as they are so big - draped over my two largest airers and they are normally dry within a day.

Something which might be a v.good idea for you considering you have a household of five is a ceiling suspended airer. It operates on a pulley system and is up out of the way and also benefiting from the warm air which as you know rises. I didn't see one in Argos - perhaps another OStyler could suggest where to see one - I'm in N.Ireland and have different shops to you. You could put one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom.

The over the radiator thingies (see in Argos) are v.good - you can get quite a lot onto them. Measure the width of your radiators to make sure they fit as they aren't adjustable. When not in use they can be chucked in a cupboard - though I only put my hall one in a cupboard if somebody is coming round as they aren't particularly intrusive.

On a sunny day (remember that big yellow thing which occasionally appears in the sky??!!) I put the airers outside and the clothes dry superfast.

Hope that has given you a few ideas.
  • Hi went into my local Tesco and they had for £9.99 a square airer like this but with only 2 tiers http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8505899/Trail/C%24cip%3D43106.Kitchen%2Band%2Blaundry%3EC%24cip%3D43173.Laundry%2Band%2Bcleaning%3EC%24cip%3D43174.Indoor%2Bairers.htm

They have two like this, with 3 tiers but no flat shelf on top, at Morrisons. The ''normal' range one is white with pale blue fixings and it's £16.99. The 'Value' one is grey with navy blue fixings, is slightly flimsier, but still adequate and is £9.99. I have got one of each - I bought the £16.99 one first, then they got the cheap ones in (just as the price of electricity shot up) and I decided to get another!

  • I've just seen this on ebay. Any thoughts, anyone?

I quite like the idea of the shelf at the bottom, it looks quite sturdy.
  • I quite like this one from ebay - but the only thing that bothers me is that I know people who bought what looks like the same item form lidl last year for about £6.

They had those in Lidl quite recently too - maybe they'll have them again?

  • Thats probably why I can never get any bargins from lidl. Folk from ebay bag them all and make a whopping profit a few weeks later when we've forgotten all about them being so cheap in Lidl / Aldi/ Netto etc.
(or am I just cynical? )

    Hi all,

This thread has reminded me to ask you what I can to make my clothes smelling damp and musty. I live in a flat with no outdoor space to dry clothes, I use an airer but find that because clothes take so long to dry they start to smell, I usually use febreeze on them but this is neither OS or economical! It has been fine all summer as I have had the windows open and air circulating and in winter I leave the airer next to the storage heater all day. But at the mo it's too cold for the windows to be open but not cold enough for the heater, any ideas?
    Saving for an early retirement!
