Three different words, three entirely different meanings. These words seem to be becoming interchangeable, often it is obvious which is intended from the context.
Can anyone suggest a way of sorting out what is meant in the cases where it is not clear? Obviously without offending the OP.

I was trying to convey that I have a certain sympathy with people who confuse these words, as probably they have not been taught the difference. My question was how to differentiate when the context is not obvious. I am also particular about my own usage, but what about those who can't differentiate?

Their - If referring to someone's possesions or referring to something personally... i.e. look at their face

There - If referring to where something is or about something, i.e. look over there

    They're - They are, i.e. They're over there

This is a handy little quiz to send people to.

I'd far rather a bit of prose with the odd spelling and grammar mistake than the forums resort to txt spk IUCWIM..
