Please clarify the era of 'steam' radio. There may be some stations still out there. Many DD requests are setup upto seven working days in advance so tinkering on your own, trying to beat the date just creates an overpayment situation. Have you tried paying via debit card. They may have to treat these payments with a higher priority than BACS. This could be wishful thinking on my part.

My main moan about their c/card account is the fact that they don't instigate the d/d minimum payment if you have already made a separate internet payment prior to the due date for payment.
Do you know of any company that does do this? I can't think of any of the cards that I have that do.

Not to detract from the main discussion on this thread but the reference to 'steam radio' alludes to the times (1940's) when entertainment was provided by a wireless set, which used a lead/acid rechargeable battery to power the (thermionic) radio valves. Occasionally, after protracted use, whispers of 'steam' would be seen from the battery. I used to have to take the battery to somewhere such as Halfords to be re-charged. Happy days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Returning to the subject of Nationwide Credit Card, I have a d/d to pay of the minimum each month and I made-up the balance with an internet transfer. That was o.k. many moons ago until I was taken short when N/W introduced "your minimum payment of #x(pounds) less any subsequent payments or credits made to your account, will be collected by direct debit on 12/09/05'

I have been £90 in credit with my Nationwide card for a number of months, flew out to the US on 26th July, came back this week and likewise have not been able to access my cc account but flex is ok. Had no problems in the months leading up to my vacation.
I actually called them as well to warn them that the card would be used as its dormant for most of the year.

OK ceebee, I think I understand what you mean now.

Is there no facility to change the direct debit to pay the full balance each month?

There is, I think, a system to pay off the whole balance by d/d, but I prefer to set up the payment, manually, via the internet. Must be a mental throwback to the days of writing cheques.
Incidentally, I don't if it is specific to Nationwide, but I find that their system of being able to select a payee (credit card, bank, etc.) reasonably simple compared to others.
(This is not a 'puff' for Nationwide, with whom I have had a few battles in the past.)

Has anyone had a problem recently accessing their credit card details on the Nationwide internet banking site?

I can log in and access my FlexAccount details without any difficulty, but when I try to view the statement details for the credit card I get an error message saying "Sorry. We are unable to process your request at this time, please try again later.". I have been getting this message consistently for at least the past 10 days.

Nationwide have so far been no help whatsoever, and I've had all the usual under-trained-tech-support cr*p about cookies and what browser I'm using . They've finally admitted this week that "We are aware that some customers are unable to view transactions for this account and this is being looked into at present.", and then went on to ask me about my browser and cookies again!

    so is it just me?

I use firefox and I have been having major probs accessing nationwide bank website. I do know a little about pcs etc, but the utter rubbish their tech support go on about cookies, browsers etc etc is rubbish.

Their homepage loads up ok, then when i click sign on the probs begin, it either hangs or doesnt load up. And making manual payments just hangs and when you exit the site, it hangs again.

This is anytime of the day and night and using different machines.

They have said its your ISP, your cookies, your browser!!!

WHy dont they say, we have problems?

I have tried it with IE6 and the same problem.

Not expirenced any what the OP has said tho. Other bank sites work brilliantly so why not nationwide?

Think it speaks for itself

I use Firefox for all my internet banking and internet browsing. This works with Nationwide,Amex, MBNA,Intelligent Finance, Egg, Cahoot, RBS etc. I also use the free version of Zone Alarm Firewall.
The credit card arm of Nationwide is broken, from my internet, in credit, viewpoint.

I am all for practical demonstrations of what terms and conditions actually mean. If you have a flex account and esaver then you can instantly dump money into the flex account prior to a DD demand. A small overdraft facility onthe flex would buffer any oversights.

Thanks to ceebee for that steam radio recollection. Clearly the 1923 exploits in the Aberdeen Steam Laundry above the railway tracks are a misleading origin to the term steam radio. Those who have to commentate ,on radio, about live action sport must have steam comming out of their ears.

I find it hard to believe people are having problems with the issue of having a positive balance on the card. My Nationwide CC went positive this month, as a refund was credited to my account after I had cleared the balance in full, meaning I was with money on the card. Even this, as described, has not caused me any problems accessing my statement online.

I have had various errors now and again, but that has been in the early hours of the morning when clearly changes have been made to the internet banking service.

Wait a month and join the club, or not if they fix it first. If I can't see my balance on this card then I am forced into reducing my liability towards this card. Also there are better value credit cards out there. I plan to keep my Nationwide card but to reduce the limit to £1000 or less as there is no incentive to use it given the alternatives choices and the recent changes in terms and conditions.
