The last 2/3 days ive taken to entering every single competition on the thread for comps that close that day/the following day. Is this what you experienced compers do? Do i stand a good chance of winning?

Hi fiftycents, welcome to the forum.

There's no set way of doing things. Some people enter everything, some only enter if they like the prize.

Winning is simply a matter a matter of luck (or probability), MSE seem to win around 2% of all prizes listed but obviously some comps have more entries than others, and some comps have more prizes than others. Skill comps (e.g. tiebreakers) tend to have less entries than click comps.

    Have fun.

was just wondering what the situation is on the phone / premium text competitions, thought that they werent really meant to be on here - reading martins rules etc sticky - but we seem to be getting more of them - would they not be better in the postal/magazine sticky (perhaps renaming it to include text or phone)?

Can anyone give me a clue how I should be keeping track of competition entries? Obviously it's not a problem if the hosts inform winners by phone or e-mail but what about those who announce winners on their website? I regularly "google" my name + winner OR competition and do the same with my usual "user name" but is there a trick I should be aware of?

the main way to keep track of entries is to use the thanks button which then shows you have already entered if you go back to the post and find you have already thanked the OP

I did a thread HERE a while back about how you are informed of wins

and catz747 did one HERE on the ones you have to go to the website to find out

    Hello!

Am new to comping - am one of these people that would struggle to win in a one ticket raffle (my ticket would get blown away and the prize would get given away to the person standing closest to the table...I'm that unlucky)

Anyway, I figure I've got nothing to lose, if I enter the comps which have prizes I could use, and I do this with any free time I get during the day - there is no harm done if I win nothing.

Wish me luck everyone - this could be the start of a lucky streak!

hjb, thanks for that. Yes, I'm using the "thanks" button but I was concerned that I may be missing out on dozens of lovely prizes. :rotfl: :rotfl: Those threads you gave links to are useful. Ta very much.
