a healthy diet can definately help but it is not a cure and needs to be part of an approach to depression. Vitamins alone will not cure depression

Oh gawd, careful you'll have ted banging on about which vitamins you need to "change yourlife" :D

Diet can help if you make sure it's varied and full of nutrients, a good support network is essential and keeping a diary often helps so you can see what has triggered dark days and monitor nay progress you may ordinarily miss

Keeping goals smart.. specific, measurable, acheivable, realistic and time orientated (Egan) can help you gain a sense of acheivement and avoid setting yourself up to fail.. which we all do at times!!

if you find out where your local cmht is, you should be able to see the duty worker and have a chat. They may give you some contact details for your local support services. Also mate, mind are a good resource. Go to their website and see where your local centre is

With regards to teds post I think we kneed to know how chemicals turn into thought or how thought turns into chemicals. Food I think is too simplistic as plenty of people dont eat correctly and never get depressed while others do.
Why don't you try entering the words "omega 3" "violence" in the pubmed searchbox.

There's no point me spending hours providing a science based answer as the bully boys representing diseasemongering health professionals will have the post deleted but there is plenty of science explaining the brain's nutritional needs and showing which supplements will enable the brain to function better.

One of the features of depression is that it has a survival mode attached to it. By being depressed there is some comfort to the brain. It might be getting them off work or school so they dont have to face bullying. It might be getting attention or whatever but until you counter the real underlying problem the depression resists all cures and tends to self perpetuate. There will be all sorts of excuses to refuse treatment or avoid the doctor or counsellor such as a sudden gaining of agoraphobia. The person denies this but only points to excuses such as I cant afford counselling but mysteriously can afford a lot of other things like videos and fashion clothes.
The person also says they are not attention seking but once again the actions dont match the words. You only have to look for a few moments on depression support to see no end of attention seeking and pity me posts.
Depression is a very clever condition in that it tends to stay one step ahead of the cure.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.
