Glad there is a recipe for malt loaf that doesn't use a bread maker as I don't have one. I can't wait to have a go.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Is there a recipe for malt loaf in the panasonic booklet??? Would you mind telling me on what page please. I have the panasonic booklet but i couldn;t find a malt loaf recipe anywhere. Ta!

Well, it's out of the BM now and looks and smells divine! ... just trying to resist cutting into it until it's cooled slightly

I wonder if Zziggi mis-typed the 305ml as it appears to be absolutely fine and thinking about it most recipes I use have 350ml water to 500g flour, which is probably how I slipped up with being half asleep on autopilot, so maybe my mistake was in my favour this time
Zziggi the recipe is on the bottom of page 27 in the basic-brown section. To be honest though, I think the recipe you posted sounds far nicer and I'm off to go sample it in a moment

OK - where's my bit ?
So, you reckon 350ml water is the way to go then? I have an ordinary loaf to take out of BM in a minute, then I shall be setting it up for malt loaf.
Yummy yummy, can't wait......0 -
Just when I was looking up bus timetables to come and grab a slice... !!!Curry_Queen wrote:Just want to say that the malt loaf was absolutely delish!

So OK, delish it is, but knowing now what it tastes like etc, what would you tweak to get an even better one?

Ultimately I'd like to create a stickier version the likes of Soreen produce
Maybe an extra tablespoon of black treacle next time, but perhaps resisting all temptation to eat it immediately and wrap it in greaseproof/foil and preserve for a week would help
Edit: thinking about it, I'll wrap the half loaf that's left and check it in a few days and see what it's like, because it is already fairly soft and pliable, and I know there's no way I could bake a new loaf and not want to delve into it as soon as it's cool enough to slice

Thanks for the page reference - i'll go downstairs and have a look in a minute.
I cut & pasted the recipe and i've gone back to check. it did say 305ml. I've got a malt loaf in at the minute using 305ml. Will report back on how it turns out...0 -

Thanks for this! I never looked at teh brown bread pages - that'll be why i;ve missed it.
Made a malt loaf using 305ml and it was fine. I was hoping for a soreen-type loaf but mine was much more bready. Still it was OK and i'd make it again. I think i'll try the panasonic p.27 one next time just for comparrison..0 -
Want to make a Malt and Sultana Loaf.
But its getting the Malt Extract that is driving me mental (for 2 flammin teaspoons worth!)
Anyhow - after much searching Tesco and Asda and asking about, it was suggested the heatlth section.
So I asked the lady if she had any for cooking. She said that this was suitable - and handed over a jar of Malt Extract with Cod Liver oil - to taste like Butterscotch.
So I bought it. AFTER I had bought it, she then asks me to come back and tell her if it works in cooking cos it would be nice to know!
Is it suitable??
Cos if not my kids are being spoon fed this stuff in the mornings! 0
