Holland and Barret do jars of it (though I found it cheaper in my health food shop, but only by pence). Makes a yummy horlix-type drink with hot milk, too, if you can spare some after the malt loaf!!
  • I got some in my local health food shop but then I saw it in Superdrug later on. It's yummy!

You can buy it in large quantities from brewing shops.

Try asking your local chemist - if they do not have it in the shop then they can get it for you the next day.

  • The cheaper home brew (beer) kits have a ginormous can of malt extract in them, just make sure it isn't one that has been pre-hopped. Otherwise you will pucker-up a lot :D

any chance of posting the Breadmaker malt loaf receipe please?
  • It's only from the recipe book that came with my breadmaker (trying to work my way through them).

    Anyway here goes;-

    To make a 1lb loaf;-

    WATER; 3/4 cup
    SALT; 3/4 tsp
    SUNFLOWER OIL; 1 tbsp
    BLACK TREACLE; 1 tbsp
    MALT EXTRACT; 1.5 tbsp :rotfl:
    PLAIN FLOUR; 2 cups
    FAST ACTION YEAST; 3/4 tsp
    SULTANAS; 3/4 cup

(Then it reads use setting 8 specialty) - Are all breadmakers setting different? dunno, you may have to check what no. your *speciality* is on.

Can also give you the measurements for 1 1/2 lb loaf. If needed just ask.

    Hope this helps,
    pot

thanks! could i ask for the quantities for the 1 1/2lb loaf please?
which Breadmaker have you got? (out of interest)
where did you manage to get your malt extract from?
For the speciality setting.... is it basically a raisen bake function? I mean is it a normal length bake cycle but it is a speciality setting because you need to use the fruit/nut dispenser to put the sultanas in at the right time ?

thanks again! I LOVE malt loaf
