  • Just a bit of happy news - DH came home from hospital on Wednesday. He's a lot more mobile than I thought he would be even though the left leg is completely in a splint with steel reinforcements to ensure no bending of the knee!! He's to see the consultant again on 9th March and from then on, start 10 degrees of flexion every week so that by about early May he should have the full 90 degree flexion that people are normally expected to have when they leave hospital following knee replacement.

This is to allow healing to take place and he can now put weight on that leg, so that does make a difference. No getting into the car yet, not for a few weeks until there's enough flexion on the knee, but he's happy with things as they are. And of course, we're so, so happy that he's home.

Looking forward to our 'spring break' at the end of April.

  • wonderful, positive news Margaret. I am very happy for you both

Well I have decided that we are going back on the spending machine later in 2009 and we will be spending on the two of us

Grhhh, is it just me or is it that gifts are not so gracefully received by many of the younger generation today. I hired and paid (a lot of money) for a gorgeous 8 bed house in the cotswolds for easter week and told our 3 that they were all welcome to join us as and when, no charge of course. I thought they would bite our hands off but only 1 is coming with dh and toddler. One cannot because of studies ie ds and partner are both studying and thats ok because I half expected that. The third is putting her cat first and here is me thinking it would be a lovely break for them ie her dh and baby too. Oh well, lesson learnt for me and never ever again

We have decided that the time has come to put me and dh first. We all have a good relationship by the way but why is it always that it is the parents who must put themselves out. If any of them need us then we bend over backwards for them. I am puzzled

I have learnt to always mute a suggestion before doing anything, what we think is a good idea, isn't always to them.

I don't know the logistics or the situation, but maybe the cost of getting to the cotswold's plus the cattery costs (don't go there) may be beyond their means, or maybe the partner isn't is favour. One will never know.

They don't mean to hurt, and don't realise they have:rolleyes:

Great News Margaret hope he continues to mend.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?

Unfortunately this just seems to be the way of things these days. Similar situations have arisen with my own children and it's very upsetting and like you I say never again, but we do, over and over again.

  • Our son used to say when we were driving him somewhere nice' 'Please parents, will you stop interrupting me to show me scenes of outstanding natural beauty and let me get on with my book/games console/mobile phone call/sleep.'

He's much better now he's older. (Or at least more tactful about it!).

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

DH has vivid memories of a ghastly holiday in Scotland when he was bitten half to death by midges on top of already horrible eczema. His parents' memory is that they were driving through all this glorious scenery and he had his nose stuck in a book so saw none of it! :rotfl:

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the boys on our USA holiday last year. It is the first time I can remember that they all came out of their books to look at what was around them, at least some of the time! It is likely to be the last family holiday, but at least I felt I would take them again.

Glad your DH is home and recovering well, Margaret.
