We had been planning to get some sun over half-term, but I decided in the end that I trust DS3 to go to school every day more than I trust him not to do anything stupid if he's at home all day, so we've postponed to the end of March. Fortunately we have a two week 'window' in our diaries, however I am refusing to leave before DS3's birthday because I CANNOT leave my baby 'home alone' on his birthday - actually he almost certainly won't be alone as we share the house, but the chap we share with won't sing to him or make him a cake. DH thinks it's fine to leave him if DS3 doesn't mind being abandoned, and of course DS3 says he doesn't, being at that age where parents are either an annoyance or an embarrassment, depending on whether you are at home or out with them. But I don't care whether DS3 minds or not, I just can't do it! :rotfl:
Anyway, looking at brochures etc I think it's the Canaries again: I'd hoped to find somewhere with a shorter flight time but anywhere closer isn't warm enough for DH.
Meanwhile the in-laws are SKIing in Australia and NZ: I haven't had the heart to check their itinerary to see if they are near any of the disasters right now. And they won't be in touch unless it really is an emergency, because they're not e-minded.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
This is where we'll be staying in April after the EDP Spring Conference at the Hilton, Portsmouth: http://www.kingfisher-retreat.co.uk/
It looks absolutely gorgeous. We've opted to stay in the gardener's cottage because that's on ground floor - DH emphasised when he booked that 'my wife doesn't DO stairs'! (sounds like the way the teenagers talk!!)
Well, he's back in hospital for surgery first on the list at 2 pm this afternoon. Was asked to go in yesterday but nothing at all happened. He's already had a run-in with one of the nurses, that was at 6.45 am, a 'great way to start the day' as he said. Apparently a nurse wanted to touch his Hickman line under unsterile conditions, he wouldn't allow it, and she 'went off in high dudgeon' as he put it. His consultant warned him when this line was installed back in November, it goes straight into a vein in his chest close to his heart and as the consultant put it 'you're in charge of this, don't take any risks as you're recovering from septicaemia, don't risk any further infection, if anyone wants to touch it and you don't think it's safe then stop them'. He has done just that.
Another example of what we're always saying, you really have to be aware, articulate and insistent when you go into hospital, no good sitting back and thinking 'oh, they know best...'
We've had weeks of the most scrupulous care by the District Nursing Team and DH is not about to risk further infection by someone in hospital 'cutting corners'.
Oh well, spring is on the way, snowdrops popping up all over, harbingers of better days to come.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Fingers crossed for the op M-C.
DH got results of blood test today for Cholestrol (sp) they were fine, but he must stay on the tablets. Also referred him to ENT for mild dizzy symptoms, so have that early Marh.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Thanks for the good wishes. Well, DH phoned me yesterday evening as soon as he was back from theatre/recovery. What he said was: 'I have a new knee'. Not a stiff leg, a new knee.
He phoned me this morning and he sounds quite perky. All is going well. I feel - and he feels - as if a weight has been lifted from our shoulders. God has been very good to us.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I am so pleased the operation went well.
I checked when I get the State pension and it is January 2013!!!!! Round about the same time that DH gets his.
I am redoubling my efforts to get DH to take his firms pension early and to retire this year. New management sytems have been put in place and the whole thing is changing next year so he could do without the stress.
I pointed out that if anyone should be nagging and nitpicking at him it should not be his new female manager, but me!!!!! He is not too sure how to take that lol!;)
If we could get our house sold and moved to one with a garden it would be much easier to convince him to put himself first, rather than a stubborn pride that he worked till the last possible minute that he could."This site is addictive!"

Oh Elona
I do hope you manage to make him see sense. We finished 18 months ago, and have never regretting it once, even though I was a complete workaholic. It is surprising how different you feel with no pressures of work, and how much more energy you have.
Maybe we need a meet when I get back, and I'll set DH on yours :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: !
