  • Thank you for such a positive post Margaretclare and glad your OH is well on the mend.

Well....this isn't SKI-ing but don't know where else to put it.

It's a momentous day for us. My husband has finished writing his book!

May not mean much to the rest of you, but he has been writing it for four years, ever since we came here to Spain.

It's a sensitive, humorous, quirky and sometimes tear-jerking look at life in our village, with a central theme running all through it.

He already has a professional literary agent who has great hopes for it.

There's a million-to-one chance that it will be our way out of the recession, the !!!!py exchange rate, and to a large dangerous motorcycle for my husband and and maybe even to a dream cottage in Pembrokeshire.

Don't know what else to say really, except that it's my birthday on Tuesday (59) and we are going down to the coast for a Chinese meal to celebrate both these things.

    I'm a bit gobsmacked really....

That's wonderful news. Let us know the title etc when it's published. I'm sure a lot on here would be keen to buy it. And happy birthday for Tuesday. Hope you have a great one!!!

    Thanks SDW!
At almost 55, I am ready to ski but am very nervous and am clinging to the ski lift for fear of crashing!
  • I understand, especially in this recession.

We are not doing a lot at the moment either!

We are not doing a lot at the moment either!

Nor are we - need to save up to replace the amounts we spent in September (holiday) then all the things I spent on in Oct/Nov.

Have to look forward to something though, hence planning a trip to the Lake District as soon as DH is mobile enough.

You've obviously read the book by the other famous expat!

The first famous expat actually lived in our village in the 1920s and wrote a book about it . His name was Gerald Brenan, he was a member of the Bloomsbury Group and the book was called 'South from Granada'.

He also wrote a lot about the Spanish Civil War and is buried in Malaga. The Spanish adore him and the house he lived in is marked with a plaque, there is a small Brenan museum in the village and people come from miles around to visit his house.

Our house overlooks his garden at the back and is on the local footpath 'Ruta de Gerald Brenan' at the front.
