Thanks to all for good wishes and kind thoughts. Well, today he was transferred from Critical Care to the High Dependency Unit (Surgical). Which, basically, is a room with 4 beds and there are 3 blokes and one lady. He was having another unit of blood this afternoon. And we are back to strict visiting hours, 2 hours in the afternoon then 1.5 hours no visitors, and 2 hours in the evening.

His daughter and son-in-law came down from the Midlands, I got rid of the old TV before they came and then they went round to Argos and got my new one, fixed it up. I had a lot of hassle with Argos who 'said' they'd tried to deliver it yesterday, in fact they didn't, I was sat here all day!!! I also did a bit of shopping, bought him some of those boxes of fruit already cut up, which is easier to manage.

My new TV is lovely, I just took the other one up to the council recycling place, his son put it in the boot and the men there got it out for me. All this time I've dithered about not driving the automatic which I wasn't used to - when I got that phone call in the middle of the night I just threw some clothes on, got in it and drove, no problem.

The plan is to get him on to load-bearing exercises on Monday. In about 5 or 6 weeks' time he'll need to go to theatre again for the 'second stage'. Not quite sure what that means, and of course, on a normal ward it's not quite so easy to see the consultant and ask questions directly.

So we're still plodding on, just taking things as they come, and at least, progress is being made.

Thank goodness for HSA - every night he spends in hospital we get paid for! Which will help, because I'm going to arrange for a gardener to come and have a sort-out before winter, then he may be coming on a regular basis.

    Thank you so much.

Last week was one of the worst weeks of my life.

He seems to be getting a bit better though - just had a phone call from the ward. He's asking to borrow my iPod! I offered it to him already but he said he couldn't concentrate. It has music and downloaded audio-books on it which he may enjoy. At least he feels a bit more like a human being. But, but, but...it has been a real 'memento mori'.

  • Poor Margaret, it must have been so worrying for you.

Glad he's a bit more bright-eyed and bushy tailed and hope he continues to improve.

    Thanks, 7DWE.

Although he's feeling better, this has acted as a 'memento mori' for me and I have just arranged both our funerals. See the 'Great Planning for Death Hunt' thread on the Marriages and Families board.

  • An update to let you know i got my results today and they were a lot better than I had hoped for. It hadn't travelled to my nodes so no further surgery required and when my wound has healed (approx 4 - 6 weeks) they will start radiotherapy for 4 weeks. I was so happy I could have kissed the consultant.
My DH was so worked up today before I got my results I thought he was going to have a heart attack so I think a break somewhere nice to get over the shock is on the cards.
My DH has already been on the internet looking for flights although to tell you the truth I really want to go to our house in France before the winter sets in so I'm about to check prices now. Thanks you all for your support and good wishes. Margaretclare I hope things are going better for your DH.
