So you are not connecting to router.
Turn off any firewalls.
Check the cable is pluged right in at router and computer.
Where you see the little TV type image bottom right of screen.
Right click it and select STATUS / SUPPORT
And tell us what the default gateway address is. it should be 192.168.1.1.
1394 is firewire, you can ignore that.
Who is your ISP? do you know the DNS address?local area connection 5
connected firewalled
marvel yukon 88e8001/8003/8010
properties all 4 are ticked in general tab
Looks like this is the conection you need to fix.0 -
i think i did try that yesterday but i can do it again.
i did have zone alarm on before it went in and he took it off, i asked why and he said because he detests it with a passion but what right does he have to remove programs. he has also removed spywareblaster, search and recover program, ccleaner, and others i cant rem right now but there are several missing that were in a maintenance folder i had created. i dont know what else he has done but i suppose ill find out bits at a time. i had windows firewall disabled because i wanted zonealarm and he had re-enabled it without telling me.
it did connect to the net yesterday for a few minutes when i first got it back but as i saw that zone alarm was gone i wanted to get it back as soon as possible as i thought i wasnt protected. as i was installing zonealarm it instantly closed down, i cant rem if i got a blue screen then or it just cllosed down. i did not know at that time that he had re-enabled windows firewall so just thinking could that have caused the problem?Thanx

When you try to check another network connection you receive the "Ping: transmit failed, error code 65" error message
You may still have Zone Alarm blocking connections.
Even if it is not active.it did connect to the net yesterday for a few minutes when i first got it back but as i saw that zone alarm was gone i wanted to get it back as soon as possible as i thought i wasnt protected. as i was installing zonealarm it instantly closed down, i cant rem if i got a blue screen then or it just cllosed down. i did not know at that time that he had re-enabled windows firewall so just thinking could that have caused the problem?
Disable any/all firewalls.
Ping the router again: CMD window ping 192.168.1.1
Get it working on the net then try turning them back on after.0 -

I am on XP so instructions I give you may differ.
If you see no icon bottom right try:
Control panel / network connections / select "local area connection 5
" and right click properties.
You may see a tick box "Show icon ..... ect" select it and it may show up on the descktop icons after.
Select the TCP/IP and the properties of that.
You most likley have both radio buttons set to obtain auto address's.0 -

I am now on the xp computer after a lot of trouble getting zone alarm back on. I disabled windows firewall and restarted but it still wasnt getting on the net. I searched zonealarm in find files and although it wasn't in my program file list it was in program files in c drive but it wasn't installed. It wouldnt let me properly instal it but from a file in the program folder it let me use it for one session at a time. When I did this it said it was incorrect icon or something and couldnt be used but it still started up and straight away avast antivirus started updating so I knew it was on the net.
I came on mse and tried to reply but the blue screens started again. When it restarted zonealarm didnt so I had to do the same thing to get zonealarm on again, it wouldnt go on the net without zonealarm on. Once it was on again I quickly downloaded and installed zonealarm properly and this time it did work, I had to then restart to complete set up. After doing this it crashed everytime I tried to restart so I started in safe mode and did a diskcheck on start up to see if that helped. It started again without crashing so I downloaded ccleaner and ran that for both files and registry. A lot of trouble was caused by him taking zone alarm off and not informing me what he had done.
Anyway I checked the fan temp in bios and its starting at about 51 and rising to 55 so I can't leave it on for long. I had to give it a rest before coming on again to try and reply after being kicked off so many times by blue screen.
I'm going to get someone else to sort the fan out, the man in the shop said the fan that is in now is for temps up to 51 but he said if this fan wasnt fixing it then it can't be fixed.
I have to say thankyou so much for your patience, help and advice. I'm really grateful to everyone, the people on here are so helpfull I don't know what I did before mse
Thanx

I am glad you are getting there.
Like I have said before get the heatsink refitted with a clean and new thermal paste.
Make sure temps stay stable and then do a fresh system restore.0
