Have you enabled MAC address filtering on the router? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Wel ive been using it for over a year on this set up at home but the pc had probs and just went offline today shortly after it came back from shop. its staying on now but it wont go online. i havent changed any settings in the router myself or the pc but my daughter can connect wirelesslyThanx

Are you getting an IP address? Try Start, Run, type cmd then OK. Type ipconfig into the black window. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

im on an old win 98 pc at mo just to get on temp daughters back at uni with her laptop now.
i can get all 3, ip address, subnet mask and default gateway but cant repair any of connection in control panel. having to disconnect and reconnect between pcs to check stuffThanx

Can you ping the default gateway? i.e. your routers IP.
Try Control Panel, Network Connections, Highlight your Local Area Network device, Change settings of this device, Highlight TCP/IP then Properties. Have you got Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically boxes checked? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
i think they are checked as ive looked in those places. i did do a ping type test on an automtatic network scan thing thats on the computer networking troubleshooter thats prob on all pcs and it was not succesful at pinging i dont think as it just had fails on the list.
which is the right connection for me the yukon one on local area connection 5 or the orther one that has 1394? its a bit confusing having 3 of them in the network connections although 1 the nvida is disabled.
i did think about calling virgin media tech help but i could be on there for ages and still not get it solved, i know its not a virgin fault but they do help on the pay line.
i do remember seeing those things already checked that you are referring to. i cant disconnect this pc right now to reconnect the other one as someone is visiting anytime now so i dont have time.Thanx

To ping your router do, Start, Run, type cmd then OK. Type ping 192.168.1.1 (default gateway from ipconfig) into the black window.
It sounds like the Yukon one is the Local Area Network device. 1394 is Firewire and the Nvida? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
im not sure what the nvida one is i will check when i can swap machines again. it was someone elses pc they gave it to my daughter. i know theres an nvida graphics on it if thats any connection but that nvida connection thing has always been disabled it also has a red cross on it in device manager its in the network adapters bitThanx

if theres anything i should look up or check on the machine and write down so i can put it on here when i come back on with the win98 machine please let me know.Thanx

You obviously need to be able to ping the router to get any further, so try doing that again. Check that the network device is enabled etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
