need help getting pc online/1 laptop already connected by wireless

Start from basics.
Post your details you get when you type "ipconfig" without the "" in the CMD window.
These are mine:Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. 192.168.0.1 is my router IP
192.168.0.5 is my computer LAN IP.
CMD Window
(Top left) CLICK / c:\ / SELECT EDIT / SELECT ALL / PRESS ENTER KEY-it will copy it all.0 -
i will try that, can i just make sure ill do it right by asking do i have to put exactly
ping 192.168.1.1 (default gateway from ipconfig)
exactlt like that including the words in brackets or just the number sorry if i sound and possibly am really thick

Not the words in brackets. That was because I don't know what your routers IP is as you have not posted the results of ipconfig.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

i duid scribble some of that down yesterday when i did it so ill put what i have written down with swapping pcs yet.
ethernet adapter local area connection 5 (this said nothing at the side)
connection-specific dns suffix:- (said nothing here)
ip address 192.168.1.101
subnet mask 255.255.255.0

To ping your router do, Start, Run, type cmd then OK. Type ping 192.168.1.1 into the black window.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Now in CMD window type:
ping 192.168.1.1
And post results

Thanx, visitor has gone now so I'll swap comps and check these things. Don't think I'll be able to copy and paste though as I have no left click on this mouse its broken, it was the right click but as that is used more I had to swap the mouse round to left hand so my left click is right click now. I'll just have to write it down

Top left was position, not left click.
But you do have to click it, left or right will do.0 -
im getting muddled up i can save on the xp comp but not on this 98 one but anyway had to write it all down anyway as i cant save any files to transfer to this one as usb pens dont work on this 98 pc.
i did the ping and this is what came up

properties: only 1 out of the 3 choices are ticked in general tab which is the tcp/ip one
client microsoft is unticked, filesharing is unticked
