Renting with a dog

I am in my third rented house in 4 years. I have a large dog and 2 cats. Each time I have found a private landlord through newspaper ads and never had a problem about pets.
I know a lot of agencies state no pets but sometimes if you ask them to ask the landlord of a particular property that landlord will often say yesThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
We are in the exact same position, nearly every house I enquired about would not take my two little dogs. They are both non-moulting, regularly go to the groomers and are flea treated, all they do is sleep all day and the biggest one only weighs 11 lbs!!
Too be honest my kids when younger would have made more noise and mess!!
I offered to pay a larger deposit and have the carpets professionally cleaned when we left
We did consider re-homing them but it would have broke our hearts
Luckily we have found a house but I must have enquired about 50 properties before this one!!0 -
We will keep trying, probably go into LAs so that they can witness we're not a couple of chavvy pitbull owners :rotfl:
There is no question as to re-homing, putting in kennels or any of the other helpful ideas :eek:0 -
Don't mention any pets at all and hide them on inspection day....my cats get shut outside
My illegal cats are causing no damage at all...plus our tenants, I found out last year, have a dog yet hubby went into house to sort out a problem and there was no evidence at all of one (doggy smell, scratched floors etc).
A toddler can cause more damage (or my 14 yr old marking carpet with make up).0 -
ive heard of landlords who wont rent their property out to pet owners then kick themselves when their property is empty because their to fussy as long as they can afford to cover the mortgage they are the fools that are loosing out :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:The average woman would rather have beauty than brains,
because the average man can see better than he can think.
Many people's view of the world is down to their experience, perception and what they have been conditioned to,this isnt any old MSE reply this is a important and experienced MSE reply :rotfl:0 -
We're renting a property, expensive one at that, have 2 large dogs & other pets. Offered extra bond, rent up front etc if required. Many turned us down. Most of those (at least 9/10) still have empty houses and would have had 6k ish off us by now, their loss not mine. One day I might be more organised...........

GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Hmm my friend is in a similar situation. People are refusing to rent to them because she has 2 rabbits who live in a hutch outside. I was surprised at this!
Will reccomend she looks in the papers though

never had a problem in our last 3 properties - letting agents tend to take higher bonds as insurance against potential damage.
Good luck !0 -
I will soon be in your position and as many LA's are also EA's I was thinking of playing up the fact that I am renting in the area with a view to buying. As the sales market is slowing I'm hoping that they will be smart enough not to alienate any future potential buyers. As I won't be inclined to buy a house from any agency which gives me short shrift.0

we rented with 2 dogs and 3 cats.
again, rural properties, larger, more difficult to rent properties may be easier.0
