Renting with a dog

Following the sale of our house, with not having found anywhere to move to yet, we are looking for a house rental. After phoning the local letting agencies to enquire about properties, they have all told us that we will not be able to rent anywhere as we have a dog.
Does anyone knows of anyway around the dog situation?

Rural properties occassionally allow them...
Really overpriced and rundown properties may too if they are desperate - they usually ask for a bigger deposit, which you forfit for cleaning... most rentals in my area don't allow kids either.... private landlords maybe more flexible but a lot aren't interested in short term between houses lets so you may be limited there.
A lot of people use the RSPCA to rehome their pets if they can't find a rental, if short term - any family for a doggy holiday? Kennels?0 -
We sold up last July and managed to find a house where they were happy to take dogs without too much difficulty.

hi,
i used to be in rented accomadation and had no problems regarding my dog .a friend of mine offered to pay a bit more deposit to put the landlords mind at rest incase the dog caused any damage.i think the way some letting agents conduct thereselves regarding dogs is wrong as mine do not chew ,are both house trained and i was willing to put any thing right incase they did do some damage.the funniest thing was one of the !!!!!es got out on heat and you can guess what happened after that my landlord did not mind having two dogs and seven puppies .so maybe offer to pay a bit more deposit thats the only thing i can think of right now .0 -

We rent a nice 4 bed and have a dog - we paid an insurance premium (£150) to cover the mutt - most landlords will take a dog if they need a tennant0

Eat the dog - now that's proper moneysaving.
1) Don't tell; "go to the rescue" after after you've signed the lease, or have visitors whenever there's an inspection.
2) Check the small ads; a LA may have a standard no pets clause (not enforceable according to the OFT, but there you are), whereas a LL may be more flexible."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

You will find that larger landlords such as the National Trust, Crown Estate and the like have no problem with dogs in their rural properties.
Even if they did, we never have anyone around to check.............0 -
fine as long as his pays his way and does his share of the washing up :rotfl:0

Definitely worth checking with the individual LL. LA standard contracts always seem to state no pets, unless LL requests an amendment. I specifically asked the LA we used to state that we would consider pets for our house - we have pets and kids, and within reason, cannot see why our tenant should not have them too! My neighbour, who has quite a few properties, uses contracts that state no pets, but doesn't really care if tenants have them if no problems caused. My daughter recently rented somewhere and the LL was happy to let her keep her small dog in the house when she asked, though the (standard LA) contract originally stated no pets. Just keep trying - I am sure you will find somewhere suitable if you persist.0
