Cat has poorly eye - sad news

I managed to get her before she had too much but she was staggering about with her ears on sideways.
Hi hev, the first couple of times I read that I thought I was mis-reading it as it sounded as though after having taken them off....... she'd put them back on wrongly!
All the best with tomorrow, I'm glad you're not waiting til Monday. Take care of that other little one, poor little mites, both of them, with bad mouths.

OH has taken Shadow in this morning.
I really appreciate the posts.
She always has acted as if she was a supermodel (Ms Campbell?) and would just pose. OH & I joked that we could set a trap for her and we put a small box in the middle of the room. Within minutes she was on the box, posing elegantly. She loved a pedestal.
Last night both her front legs were soaking wet. She hasn't been near water, so we think it must be drool. That is new yesterday, but at least I've got her into the vet.
We would always be going into a room to find her posing in a patch of sunlight looking absolutely gorgeous. Then she'd give us a look that said, 'they used to worship cats in Egypt, you know, take the hint.'
Thank you for your posts. Yesterday for me was the pivotal point, where it was cruel to keep going. If the vet can give some sort of reassurance then we will continue with the treatment, but the vets are real cat lovers (there is a practice pet cat) and they won't watch her suffer.
I'll keep you posted.Always another chapter0 -
Oh dear, poor Shadow - she does sound as if she's going downhill now
I'm so sorry, your stories of her have made me laugh in the last few days and it's so sad if she's not going to make it now. Female cats always seem to have so much character - not that my boy doesn't but all the girls I've had have ruled the place! Any male cats never stood a chance against the girls, they'd soon get put in their place
Shadow sounds just like that except she puts the humans in their place too!
Take care. xxLBM: March 2008DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 1980 -
Thanks, tishywish, it has really helped me to post here the last few days.
Our old tom cat was a character as well - he was completely bonkers. He was also completely henpecked. The only time when he would stand up to Shadow was if she had thumped Smoke. Then he would chase her all round the house until she hid behind the TV. Once she had been behind the TV then she would come out and wallop him - we used to joke she kept spinach there.
I keep thinking of Shadow in the past tense, but I hope I am wrong.
Shadow hates getting wet but loves watching water drip. She would sit under a dripping tap for ages and then come in to the living room absolutely drenched and dry herself in front of the fire - but you try bathing her!
When we first got her I got a double dish for food and water but I had to get rid of it. She loves seeing water move, so she would nudge the dish. Then she would nudge the dish again, then again. We would come back from work to find cat food all over the floor because she'd nudged the dish so much and her looking irritated because she would never eat cat food that had been on the floor - chicken, cheese, tuna were all fair game but she never eats cat food that had been on the floor.
I've not heard anything from vets or OH. I guess I won't til tonight, and I will keep you posted.
Thank you for listening.Always another chapter0 -
Just had call from OH and he has had a call from the vet.
They examined Shadow under sedation and it appears that where the tooth was removed has not been healing at all and has gone spongy. They think that the problem is a growth, which is quite large and not operable. They recommended that they do the kind thing rather than keep her hanging on.
OH agreed.
Thank you for all your support.Always another chapter0 -
Oh Hev sorry to hear your news... its never easy to let a pet go but you know its the right thing to do.. I feel like I got to know your 'old girl' in the last few weeks and know that you are going to miss her forever... try and focus on the good life that you gave her and keep her close to you in the memories you have of her...
We have a place in the garden for our 'old girl' and I sit there sometimes with my new 'old girl' and think about her....
I am glad its helped to post here.... thinking of you today....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Sorry to hear your news.
You all did the right thing for her."outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. inside of a dog, it's too dark to read" - Groucho Marx0 -
Oh Hev, I am so, so sorry to hear such sad news. I've been hoping you'd get some better news. Shadow is no longer suffering now though, you did the right thing and you haven't kept her hanging on. Sometimes it's the kindest thing we can do for our animals, no matter how difficult it is at the time. I'm in tears typing this now, for you. Will be thinking of you. xLBM: March 2008DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 1980

Just want to say thank you for all the posts and good wishes.
It was yesterday she really seemed like she was suffering. Before that, I could hope.
Have to move a cat bed before OH gets in, so there is just one bed now.
Don't know how Smoke is going to react. She was close to our old tom, and when he passed away she just lay around, we had all sorts of problems trying to get her to take an interest. She wasn't so close to Shadow, but I will be breaking out the catnip for her, just in case. I think if I wasn't looking after DS I would be having a few drinks myself.
When Shadow was on the catnip she was an affectionate 'drunk'. I remember her rolling round on top of the scratching post and falling off and staggering upright and coming up for a cuddle. When we first got her she was really wary around humans, I don't think she had been loved. She was around six months old. But she always liked to be in the same room as us. I remember playing on the computer and she was on top of the old tv we used as a screen (back in the days of the Amiga) and she was soooo asleep she fell off. So she sulked and slunk off to sleep on the floor - and when she realised she was on a rug and potentially another eighth of an inch higher she slunk off that and lay on the carpet.
I remember my Dad leaving a window open and Shadow escaping. We were looking all over - we couldn't let them out because there was a garage behind us (she was a wedding present - I wouldn't have got her because she had to stay in). In fun I saw Smudge, our old tom, looking out the window and asked him if he had seen Shadow. He gave me a right mouthful and then stared pointedly out of the window - there she was, strutting round the garden! I got to her just before she got over the wall and into a nice patch of oil.
She is going to be missed. Poor DS will miss her - she used to go over to him, her an old lady and him a boisterous toddler - and encourage him to play with her.
Thank you for the kind messages, they really help.Always another chapter0 -
