  • Having gone through many permutations, and wondering if my bargain Aldi Breadmaker was a good purchase after all, OH bought me a thermometer and as long as
    1. the water is 30 oC or third boiling and 2 thirds room temperature if you have no thermometer and
    2. Add yeast and water first then Flour and rest of ingredients (ensuring salt never touches yeast,
The bread comes out fine. you can experiment with a little less salt, but sometimes without it, the top of the loaf sort of caves in. It seems to have solved the problem for me. Hope thats of help to any other frustrated breadmaker owners!:)
  • Hi Mummy - As I posted before on this question. The Which? report has just tested breadmaking machines and they reckon that the new Kenwood 425 is the best machine they have every tested by a clear mile. I therefore checked on Amazon and waited till they came down from £129 to £70 odd and I bought one. I am very happy with mine but then this is my first BM so I can't compare it with others.

Hello all, I'm sure this has been asked so many times but i just wanted to see what Breadmaker you use and how you find it??
I have a cheap Argos one and not 100% sure on it - well the rest of the family are not!! The bread is always a bit thick (If you know what i mean...)

I have the Argos one and its made good loaves until the recent cold spell, now they don't rise much so I think the ambient temp has a lot to do with proving. FWIW I find the basic white, french, coarse white and nut and raisin loaves are great usually. Mixing in 20% granary is good too.
  • I bought a cheap one from Aldi many years ago and although it made a nice enough loaf it was a real pain to get the bread out and I wanted one with a nut/fruit dispenser.

I bought the Anthony Worrall Thompson bread maker and absolutely love it. I don't think I've ever had a bad loaf. The biggest loaf is 1.25 kg.

Wouldn't swap it for the world.

The ambient temp has gone back up and the loaves have returned to normal thankfully.

I have heard lots of good things about the panasonic ones - do you think they are worth the extra??

Any opinions would be great :D thanks
This is my first posting to the forum, I have recently been given a Morphy Richards 48248 Breadmaker by a neighbour of mine to try out. Used it nearly everyday for about a month now and tried out different flours and settings on it. Most of them had a really hard thick crust at the bottom of the loaf and the paddle got stuck inside every time, which meant digging it out with a knife:(

Pleased to find that all loaves I make have soft crusts - not that kids are any more ready to eat them :(

Have you tried waiting for the loaf to cool before taking it out? Seems easier that way, my breadmaker comes with a little wire with a hook at the end to remove the paddle.
  • Mine used to be thick and dark at the bottom too, until i stopped greasing the tin. it is softer, and comes out with no problem so far. I just have to keep remembering to take the paddle out before giving the bread away!
    Loving the sunny days!

If you can choose crust colour go for light, I find the paddle stays in the tin on the light crust setting :)
