Purchased the SD255 last night from Debenhams.
£83 and a few pence after using a few online codes. the SHA1 worked for free delivery.
Unsure when it will arrive, no dispatch email yet. Cant wait to get it!

I'd been thinking of getting a breadmaker for ages, being a bit tight i was going to get the Cookworks from Argos, the cheapest i could find. After reading so many on here praising the Panasonic i went out a few weeks ago and splashed out on one, and it really hurt to spend so much.
But it's great, worth every penny. Better to spend out on something you can use and enjoy that save money on a cheaper product that stays at the back of the cupboard.

First loaf with the Panasonic SD255. Used the rapid bake.
Medium size loaf with a middle crust.
Used Asda Brown Bread flour (99p)
Alisons yeast (one in the green packet. 2x 39p)

Came out tops. Well pleased if all loaves turn out like that. Next loaf I will test on the normal 4hr setting.

Hi OH and I have been looking to buy a breadmaker for a while, however only now that we had lots of high street vouchers for christmas is it possible, have looked on argos (sorry excuse me but I don't have a clue about breadmakers) and they seem to have 2 which would appeal to us ...

    Panasonic SD255 breadmaker http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001151/partNumber/4223560.htm
    or
    Morphy Richards Fastbake breadmaker http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001151/partNumber/4211376.htm

Which would be the better option for us to go for? does anyone have either of these models? Are there any other breadmakers which would be worth a thought before we take the plunge?

    Thankyou in advance

    Hi Rusty,

I have the Morphy Richards and I'm happy with it though these days I bake more by hand but I think the Panasonic is the first choice amongst Old Stylers with the MR a close second.

There's an earlier thread with lots of opinions that should help so I'll add your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

  • Panasonic all the way. Everytime you set it going there is a real sense of confidence that the loaf is going to be good. As long as measurements are accurate and the ingredients is good quality.

I have set mine on a timer this morning. Wholemeal loaf - 5h.
We will see if having the water ontop of the flour and yeast makes a difference.

I am sure the water will seap through before mixing takes place.

I used to have a breadmaker but didn't get any success out of it. I bought it for a tenner from a very old lady and although I liked fresh bread the crust was really thick, and the bread would go dry within half a day.

I am thinking as a way of saving a bit of money if it was worth investing in a proper one. We go through three loaves of bread every week so I was wondering if I would save some money by making my own.

Has anyone got one? What are your views on it? Any good ones out there, that do fresh soft bread with only a thin crust?

    Thanks a bunch !

Thanks, I wasn't sure I was posting in the right forum section... Do you think I can request a move instead of doing a whole new thread?
