    Hi

I have no idea how much I should be looking to pay for a bread maker, but obviously want the best bargain out there! Can anyone suggest any decent ones that are also cheapy?

    Thanks xx

    Hi lilian,

There's an earlier thread that may help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

The panasonic and morphy richards breadmakers seem to be favourites with old stylers but these threads on other models may help too:

    Tesco breadmaker

Hinari Breadmaker anyone else got one?!!!

    Cookworks Breadmaker Plea!

    Which Breadmaker to get?

    kenwood breadmaker opinions wanted!

    Aldi breadmaker

    Durabrand Breadmaker

There are lots more threads, but too many to list here. If you do a forum search (it's towards the top right of the main old style board) with breadmaker in the titles you should be able find them.

It would seem my Morphy Richard Fastbake is no more. Im sad as I do love my BM. It has about 5 months guarantee left but when I read it I would need to adequately package it up and send it back to them. By the sheer weight of it how much would this cost me?? Lots I pressume. So by choice and from what I have read on here the Panny sounds good. Priced here at Argos is 119.99 euro for the SD254 and 149.99 euro for the SD255 seems pretty hefty price, so Im going to look online must be able to get cheaper than that. Has anyone had any experience in sending one back to the manufacturer?

When / where did you buy your broken one? Try taking it back to the shop and ask them to send it back for you - it's surely worth a try to get it repaired to save a bit of money.

If you do decide on a replacement, I'd recommend a Panasonic - I am not the greatest at baking and weighing accurately:o but I get great results every time now whereas my previous cheaper one (can't remember the make but it was a generic type on offer at Sainsburys) was a bit unforgiving in results.

    Good luck.

  • I'm looking into buying a bread maker and was hoping some of you may have some tips for me on what features to look out for or personal recommendations.

I do bake a bit of bread occasionally, but am now looking at making all our bread at home. This isn't really just to save money but I just think it tastes better and I have a 7 month old daughter and am concerned about the carp that goes in shop bought bread.

Anyway, ideally I'd want something that will make full size loaves, as well as something that will just prove the dough on it's own so I could make rolls and pizza bases etc.

I'm thinking there are probably more features to look out for, i.e. retractable paddles etc. so please let me know what I need to be looking out for.

    Thanks folks.
  • I have a Panasonic, which I love ;) and I make a lot of bread by hand, too :D

I'll add this to the existing thread on choosing a BM so that you can see the recommendations of others.

  • I have a Morphy Richards Fastbake which I bought for under £40 from Amazon.I have had good results so far and I am very pleased with it,althought I would not recommend to use the fastbake facility which bakes a loaf in an hour.I get a much better loaf with the 3 hour cycle.I also buy the cheap packet mix bread from Morrisons(about 40p) for when I am in a hurry and dont have a spare minute to weigh out ingredients before I go to work.I just throw it in the machine with the water, set the delay start timer and when I come in from work there is a nice warm loaf waiting for me.Theres nothing like a nice slice of warm fresh bread with a thick layer of butter. You can also make jams and cakes in it.

I used to have a Kenwood but recently bought a Panasonic as 2 of my friends had one. Its the best thing I ever did. My bread always turns out perfect and looks and tastes good - Panasonic is definately the one to go for!
