  • Hi
We have Potterton Combi 80 installed which is now 10yrs old. It has been working fine until last week when it started to lock itself out. However, by resetting the boiler, it would start working again. We called BG as we have Flexi 100 cover. The guy said that we need to get the system PowerFlushed. We also have Salamander SESI scale inhibitor installed. What I need to know if the issue could be due to the sludge or not. If not, what other reasons could be there?

    Many thanks

LoL if they don't know whats wrong BG always say you must have a powerflush. It goes with the territory. Get a second opinion.

    Cheers

Isn't it about time power flushing mad British gas gets reported to watchdog, or rouge traders ? I think its diabolical that everywhere you look on here BG say power flush for any kind of problem. Oh and guess what its not covered in your plan

british gas told my mate he needed a powerflush £ 1200,
they fitted a new grudfoss pump head, painted blue, with british gas on it,
the pump head.......... had had the impeller removed,
i installed a new pump,he cancelled the contract,

i do not know who the fitter was either genuine bg,
or a sub contractor with a bg shirt on,
either way nothing will ever get done about it untill,
enough people get together and complain, that will never happen,
    in britain,

true, maybe a BG complaints/im i being ripped off thread needs to be started
  • Thanks all.

I will definitely take a 2nd opinion. I am going to call BG to find out if they really did a water test or not.

    Will keep you posted.
  • Just had BG out to fix problem I have on my boiler, I pay for Home Care which gives me unlimited call outs & all parts, he told me the main heat exchanger wanted changing, but they would only do this if I paid for a power flush as it was this causing the problems, cost £545. Ive just phoned BG about this & was told that the power flush is not covered in home care agreement, I asked how long do they garantee the power flush for, she said a life time. I explained that BG told me that when they installed my new boiler 2006 that they did a full power flush, so why do I need it doing again. I think some one is on a good little earner here, if I got a 3rd party to do power flush at half the cost of BG, then BG wont garantee it if problem comes back.
  • john stick to your guns, bg have already said they guarentee the flush for life so if they did it in 2006 then it should be under their guarentee, bg are a nitemare had a customer with 5 star cover on a warm air unit, the connection had failed where the flue joined the ridge terminal, my customer was getting no joy from them so i phoned on his behalf, i was told that the boiler & system was covered but not the flue, i asked them if the boiler could be operated without the flue & was told no of course not, so i said therefore the flue is an integral part of the boiler & system but they still wouldn't have it.

keep on at them & maybe a few threats that they are breaking their own contract as the flush is guarenteed for life, if nothing else you may get a free flush so you can get the heat exchanger replaced.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
