We held a list of patients wanting an NHS dentist at the tPCT, we sent out letters to 1000 people when there was capacity to register with an NHS dentist and guess what... only 347 took up the offer!!!!!!

I don't think it helped scrapping the missed appointment charge on the NHS too, in the first quarter after the new regs came in we audited and found a significant rise in FTAs, 6435 in one section of the city for Apr, May & June!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Is tPCT the Yorkshire way of saying 'The PCT'? :D
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Just one fee of £198 for both if they are done on the NHS

lol i always give people the pct number so they can take it out on them. its not my fault that someone has bothered to go to the dentist for years and now "all of a sudden" theyre in pain and need one. grrrrrrrr

OMG Alison every time I read one of your posts, you're so full of empathy  towards patients.

You really should do as you have previously said and move out of that job if you feel as stressed as it would appear, you're doing nobody any favours.

I understand your beef with NHS pricing hassles, but step outside the box, people are scared to visit the dentist that's why they leave it until the pain/problems become too much - they are already uptight and then they're in for the possibility of being greeted by someone who radiates goodwill and understanding  like yourself.

Working in any NHS establishment does tend to lower your sympathies towards that beast that is 'the general public'! Either that, or you deveop the seemingly rather warped sense of humour of the medic!

But I do agree with you that if someone is getting that stressed, it is time to have a look at alternative employment - It's just not always that easy!

Having read this I'm getting a bit worried now.
I've got two front teeth that are capped and one of them has broken at the back. Last time this happened -just before Christmas - the dentist filled it and its been find till now and the filling fell out. I was told at Christmas that if this happened it was likely I'd have to have the capped tooth taken out (not much there for it to hang on to now apparently) and the cheapest way would be to have it added to the partial denture I already have.
I dread to think what this is going to cost me...............if its in the £198 bracket no way can I afford it !!

I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

An addition to an existing plate....I'm not sure if this would be a full band 3 charge, usually anything involving a lab fee is, it may even work out cheaper to have the addition done privately!
