Hmm, is it a frugal holiday Janey? Well, not in the context of this challenge but I am definitely going to try and make it as MS as possible!
I'm being forced to rethink the challenge actually - I'm not giving up or anything but my health has to come first so I may not be going hammer and tongs at the full-on saving malarky. Ultimately I want to get well and go back to my job, albeit in a very different way. I fully intend to use all the great frugal skills I'm learning on here so that I can work in a way that suits my disability without having to worry about the financial implications.
Sorry to hear about the heating expenses, scary stuff! I hope you really don't need to work every hour possible to pay for it Janey.

Having a house that runs exclusively on logs for heat I can definitely say that it's doable. I too have a cream carpet! Yes, it gets messy, but if you are vigilant with a] the ashes, b] the logs themselves as you bring them in - they tend to shed bits! and, most importantly, the feet of person who is bringing the logs in!! then you can keep it under control - up to a point. Don't expect to have dustfree surfaces, just get used to it. Write your name in it, fine - just don't DATE it!

If you have an unlined chimney it will act as a very gently radiator, true, but bear in mind all the hot air that is going up the chimney which ISN'T warming anything but the heavens. It's better to get the warm air from downstairs upstairs if you can. Opening a door works but do be aware that you will have draughts. I don't care if you have the most airtight house in the world, you will get draughts from where the colder air falls down the stairs as the warmer air goes up. In our house the curtain at the bottom of the stairs actually billows out with it! If there's any way you can get a smallish pipe between the ceilling of the downstairs and the bedroom then that'd be your best bet, but doooooo be careful how you do it. Don't even think about attempting it unless you have a very good idea of what difficulties you could cause yourself. The draught on a fire is a very important and tricky thing, messing with it can cause havoc, smoke and carbon monoxide problems .....

Do check anything you'd consider doing with the Fire Brigade. They might tell you that it's a tremendous fire hazard or something and I'd hate to think of you roasted to a crisp because of my daft idea:eek:
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D

    Evening frunchkins:D

Made tea for the oldies today, have joined slimming world so put oldies on healthy eating today too:rotfl: . I'm not cooking and then not being able to eat it when I have finished:D . So we have all had lovely homemade spicy veggie soup, wholemeal roll, roast beef and ham with mixed salad, boiled egg, jacket potato etc, plus fresh fruit salad/sugar free jelly/double cream for afters. (I was very good and didn't have the cream )
So along with all the other things I am trying to achieve within my stockpile challenge I now also need to produce food to fit in with the SW plan. Luckily my mum is also going and is paying for me to go with her as I refused to pay £4.50 a week to get weighed:shocked: I do pick her up and take her though.:p

Not had to spend any money yet out of my £100 stockpile contingency fund, but by the end of next week will need eggs.Tomorrow I am going to pick my first batch of rhubarb and make some crumbles for the freezer , and stew a bit to add to my yoghurt/porridge.Me and OH snaffled the first few strawberries today, they were delish:D

Marru did you ever get the part for your easiyo??
Mumzy - good bargain with your jeans:D

Yes but it was the wrong one and I have been too upset to get back to them. It is on my to do list but is been pushed to the bottom of the pile constantly. I might as well take it off the list.

I am a bit upset tonight as my virtual man has abandoned me. He has taken me off from his favourites and has not sent me a message in two weeks. I do understand that but what upsets me that I would like to have told not just left hanging even if it is just about sending emails. I have now deleted my profile and will steer away from all kind of dating related things. And after having spent this week in the betting boards I don't really think that I like men that much they are so terribly serious about their business. We are lucky with Mr DT here who seems to have a sense of humor.

On a positive note. Exacly week from now I and my darling Dog are snoring in the B&B in Windermere :j and then Saturday and Sunday I will be on my course and will be meeting lots and lots of like minded people. DD is going to spend weekend with her godmother. I will be driving for 7.5 hours (according to theAA) on Friday evening and then 5 h on Sunday evening and further 2.5 on Monday morning. I have agreed with DD's nursery that I can drop her off as soon as we come back on Monday morning and then I can come home and crash. I hope us course participants will go and have a meal together on Saturday evening as I haven't had a chance to do anything like that for AGES! I just can't wait.

I have been burning midnight oil recently studying and researching all things in betting so better try to get to bed tonight before midnight and log off now. I hope DD won't try to get me up at six in the morning. Ah there she is I can here here now - off to sort her out and then get to bed.

Have a great day tomorrow everybody!!

    Marru

PS Sophiesmum - so naughty to tell about that crumble - I can just smell it.....
