. Apparently we also have an offline version that trades in trades - plumbers, joiners, electricians, jam making, child care, car share etc. She's going to email me the details soon, so I'll let you know if it's something that's nationwide or if it's purely local.

Sounds like a LETS group nyk

we dont have one here but thinking about starting one you can do an online version bit like freecycle and the computer does all the maths , i particularly like the idea of barter markets which some groups have

Whitewing - Sorry your having to deal with all this and not getting much support from hubby 2 be where is MIL from i only ask brcause i know some cultures have community mediators ,Relate might work at helping hubby think about how his relationship with you is suffering in his desire to help his mum

I found it useless though as my ex lied in meetings !!

    Hope you work things out

  • Hi everyone! Have been away from the Internet for a week and a half so haven't been posting - have finally caught up on the thread! I LOVE the house saving picture with the bricks, MrDT - it's really cute and must be a great motivation. I hope you manage to find a solution/compromise with your MIL, Whitewing; I'm sure living with any MIL wouldn't be too easy but then adding the cultural barriers etc is even tougher and it seems to me like you've coped admirably so far. And  to everyone else - don't have much time so can't reply to many people!

I've managed to keep the spends low but not that low as lots of train travel has been involved. Will update signature to see what the damage is soon. I did a week's work experience which was excellent, and for which I counted the travel since I wasn't earning money, then had to travel for a competition. I now have to travel AGAIN today as OH has been messing me around a bit with what he wanted me to do. I was rather annoyed about that but have been mollified by finding a £4 National Extress funfare. Don't want to miss it so will have to go! :p

Hello all and sending best wishes to whitewing - somehow you always seem to manage admirably but I really do send you my very best wishes. I couldn't do what you are doing, I know that for a fact, it takes a very special person to deal with everything that you have on your plate and I only hope you have everything well and truly sorted before the wedding. Have you checked out what the cultural differences are once you are legally married etc? I'm really sorry if this sounds in any way negative and I can only admire you and the strength of your relationship to be planning a wedding amidst so many unanswered questions. I'd be a paranoid wreck by now, so PLEASE cover every possible scenario before the wedding day. Hopefully it is just pre-wedding jitters all round but best to go into it with your eyes wide open in case there are any 'traditions' you are unaware of or don't fully understand because of the language barrier. I am genuinely concerned, as I do know someone in a similar situation who simply hadn't a clue the massive impact a wedding would have on her situation. I would invest in the services of a professional translator and arrange a meeting with all the family involved and your lawyer, just to set some ground rules at least. Good luck. (Is a new husband automatically entitled to half ownership of all assets and vice versa?)

Shaz - yes, it's a Lets group, but I haven't checked it out yet and can't think how I'd be able to contribute or make the most of it. Still, it's worth looking into, I guess.

Hmm, wasn't sure whether to reveal age because I'm not actually in the challenge (only addicted to the thread). Actually it was because because you're all so young, I feel like a very old lady! I'm 52.

Who was it mentioned Rhonda Jean's blog? Thanks for that, it's a wonderful site and RJ is a great role model for the, ahem, mature fruker as she says she didn't get into simple living until she was 50. Hope for us all, then!

Tee hee, me too 52 years old, and addicted to this thread even if not in the challenge. Maybe we should start a 52 years old lurkers thread.

Some great ideas on here though and I am learing new things every day.

    thanks peeps

I just got slapped in another thread for using the thank you button too much!!! I feel like a naughty school girl that has been told off in front of her class mates. It is so nice to come back here to calm down. SO THANK YOU!!!!! There - that made me feel better.

Whitewing, I hope everything works out for you. Your idea of going to Relate (or some other body that can mediate) sounds like a good one; if you could go to one with MIL all the better, to get her on board or at least get things clear. Nyk's right when she says you should check out everyone's expectations and maybe the legal situation, too: it's a lot of trouble with a wedding coming on, but important stuff for everyone concerned and you are very strong and resilient. Good luck.

Feel better now. Must admit that it had crossed my mind that as we aren't married and don't have wills (thought we'd take the risk of sorting that when we're married rather than do it twice), then MIL would be next of kin rather than me for arrangements. Not so much worried financially as haven't been in house long enough; more just what would I do with MIL?

Anyway, I have been creative this morning, making wedding invitations. We're going to look around the area this week and then hopefully can finalise arrangements and get the invites out. They're looking good.

Ignore him, from the look of his sig he's just a grumbler!

I managed to clock up 39 miles today running about for work, some of it favours and some by getting lost and going round in circles trying to park. Anyway, the good bit was one meeting was 12.45 so they offered me lunch and the other was 5.00 and they had celebrated a birth so there were yummy 'leftovers' so I had tea. It was rude to say no.

So as I have no tea to cook I'm going to get some planting done. I'm so envious of all the growing being done but at least mine is dug and ready now.
