Can I Sue for 1p?
Comments
-
Basically I bought something online and when I got my Credit Card bill I had been overcharged by 1p.
I emailed them to complain but their response was that I shouldn't be worrying about it and if I had any "real" queries that I should reply otherwise I should get lost (basic tone of email rather than actual words).
Obviously if the email had been appologetic etc I wouldn't be wanting to pursue the matter but it wasn't so I want justice now.
What should I do? Can I sue them or could I dispute the transaction with the Credit Card company?
Maybe you should send a moany letter to them instead and choose never to use them again.
I agree it's bad of them to overcharge and not even attempt to refund it, and yes yes I know it's 1p, but as you said it is the principal. Although like others said, it may be a waste of time/effort and stress to pursue it, so maybe best just to avoid them and complain.Amo L'Italia0 -
This might actually be the most fun thing to do.
Just keep writing to them and see how long you can spin it out for.
Ask silly questions, when they respond ask sillier ones, keep it going, cost them as much of their time and money as you can. Be polite and just barely credible. Like a slightly dotty elderly lady, who just wants to know if they could maybe charge it back and then wants the details, and then wants to know if they'll take it off her next purchase . . . If necessary you could simply start a dialogue about something else.
When they eventually get fed up, you can write them a final letter, explaining how much of their time/money you have succeeded in wasting and that it would have been cheaper/easier to just charge you the correct amount next time.0 -
Go ahead I say.
I can prove my allegation that Paramountzone overcharged me by the princely sum of 1p and refused to give it back.
However I doubt they'd risk the publicity.
Why not contact the registered owner of the website direct and ask for his opinion as to why they overcharge? These are the publicly available to anyone details for the website:Registrant Contact:

I'm with the OP on this. They should be giving the money back. However little the amount is they've made the mistake so why should the OP pay?
As far as the TV stand goes. If they needed to put something through the till for the new stand going out then surely they needed to put something through the till for the smashed one coming back? On a similar theme on the odd occassion I'm at work and forget to put someone's cash back through I have to ring a random item (usually a miscellaneous 1p) through to get the transaction processed, but I always knock that off what I tell the till the cash back is and give the customer the full amount. I'd have had that 1p back off them as well.0 -

Not forgetting how much of your own time you've wasted!!!
Okay, it's 1p. It's costing you more in electricity to type an email to them... the "money saving" to do would be to switch your computer off (and get a job to fill in all the free time you have!)
However, if I asked every money saver on here had to pay a penny per post, I'd be able to buy myself a nice house in Bordeaux by the end of the year (maybe!).
If a company tells you a price, they should charge you that price. Otherwise, where would you draw the line: at 2p? 50p? £100?
I'm surprised that this could have happened. With everything being electronic, surely the amount shown when you clicked "pay now" is the amount they take from your card straight away.... if not, online invoices and "tick here if you agree to" and everything else online is worthless.
I, personally, would post their email response on here (take out personal details!!) and then contact a manager, cheif exec...... (by email if possible! Is this worth the cost of a stamp?) for everyone to see what their customer service is like.... hopefully combined with the power of google it'll annoy them a little. Do let us know what happens! Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0 -
Go to my school Pick up all the 1ps and shut up please0

Why is this thread still alive?!
EDIT: Yes, I understand the irony of this post"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0
