Moving to O2 Simplicity

Hi everyone,
Can anyone help me with my problem? I'd be interested to hear if anyone is in the same situation.
I'm currently an O2 pay monthly customer who has been with them for several years and it very happy. I have seen the ads for the simplicity tarriff and it sounds perfect for me as I send lots of texts. It also has free O2 to O2 calls which is excellent as my girlfriend is on O2.
In the past when I have seen offers like this O2 have said that I cant move to these contracts - they are for new customers only. They said I could cancel my old contract and start the new one, but I would lose my number.
The really annoying thing is that O2 say they cant port numbers between their own sims - only to a competitor!
I've thought about getting a free PAYG sim (orange maybe?) and porting the number to that, then porting it back to the simplicity contract, but that seems very long winded. Can anyone think of a better way to do this?
Thanks in advance

No - unfortunately that's what you have to do - Virgin is usually the quickest to turn this around.0

Unless you're still in an agreed contract length due to your last upgrade, they should be able to switch you to this either straight away, maybe from your next bill date, or at one month's notice at the most.
If you are an existing O2 customer you can move across to simplicity by visiting an O2 retail store or call our customer care line on 01226 784068. If you have signed a minimum term contract you will need to wait until the end of your minimum term though .

My friend did exactly that, waited until 5 weeks until end of contract then asked about shifting to 02 simplicity - they agreed and transferred her days later. So advice would be to wait until nr end of contract.Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

I switched to O2 Simplicity at the end of my last contract easily enough. If you have been doing deals with them in the past make sure that any boltons are removed at the same time.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090

My son went from a PAYG sim to the Simplicity and they let him keep his number. Watch out though because although it states unlimited o2 -o2 calls, there is in fact a fair usage clause and you'll get charged for anything over that.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

There is no specific fair usage limit, and the terms say only:
All unlimited call (minute) Bolt Ons allow you to make unlimited calls on your mobile phone for private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
in, or connected to, any other device; or
in a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.

I pay my sons bill every month and shortly after he'd got the sim I got a bill for £58 instead of the £15 I had been expecting. It's seems he'd gone over the fair usage allowance. The only way to know where you are is to check online where your bill is at and that runs about 2 days behind actual usage. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with it, just be careful.
I wouldn't be surprised if something else had happened in this instance.0 -

could it not be possible that your son went over with his x-net mins, rather than o2 mins
my son has the online 20 and he has never went over with his o2 to o2 (yet:rotfl: )most of his mates and his gf are on o2 he hardly uses x-net (so i use them:D ) i was told by o2 he would never go over his fair usage but i was insistent to know what is was and i was told it was 3,000 minutes,
he managed to go over his 1000 text last month though by 232:eek: i made him pay the difference:rolleyes:0 -
I spoke to o2 and they told me he'd gone over his fair usage so it definitely wasn't his x-net. I would have made him pay if he'd got any money but he's still at school and the only money he gets is from me so not much point there.Member #7 SKI-ers Club
