Says two people on this site. The thousands and thousands of everyday buyers on ebay every day seem to be getting on with it.

Ok thats three of us (actually to be honest its everyone but you I think confused-smiley-013.gif).
If you have read almost ANY of the other threads on here you'll see, from ACTUAL experience that anything but a signature for paypal will not have a happy ending. You can even have a photo of the buyer waving your item outside the Old Bailey and you'll still lose.
When I sell my mobile upgrades or anything of value, I always send special delivery (and charge accordingly) to a confirmed address - after all the advice and bad experiences of others on this forum I'm suprised anyone would do otherwise???
When I'm a buyer, I've never paid for any insurance or anything but the cheapest postage when paying by paypal , although I've never had anything go missing yet, but if I did I'd be confident of getting the cash back off the seller, especially someone who states - no insurance- no refunds then STILL takes paypal!!!
Please provide your ebay id if you still don't believe us, I'd be happy to prove it to you, especially if you've got any PS3's or I-phones for sale as I'm looking for a good but cheap birthday present for my girlfriendtongue.gif.
You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...

The vast majority of sellers on ebay have the same policy. That they will supply proof of postage. They can't all be bad, with poor selling practice.

The vast majority of sellers on ebay DO understand the rules and I take issue with the fact that you think most of us are too dim to understand our responsibilities.

Only the dimmest sellers still try and insist they are not responsible for loss in the past, and they soon get a shock with their first paypal chargeback. The rest of us make sure our business models allow for losses, or else we self insure. Any seller who does not understand the rules, and they are getting rarer and rarer now, are in my opinion Too dim to use ebay.

    Five now!

It really annoys me when I see "I'm so sorry but I cannot be responsible for Royal Mail" in a listing that accepts Paypal. I never buy from them as they obviously don't have a clue.

I've learned the hard way that it's the sellers responsibility to cover themselves or at least learn what the procedure is when an item goes missing ie. refund the buyer and then claim from Royal Mail.

I bought some boots last year and they didn't arrive. I informed the selller and she did that old thing of telling me that she was very sorry but she did say in the listing that she wasn't responsible for Royal Mail but help in any way that she could. I wrote back to let her know that I'd paid by Paypal so I was covered with Paypal Buyer Protection. She continued to protest and I just sat back pretty confident that I would get my money back with a Paypal claim, which I did.

The bottom line is that if you use Paypal then you agree to their terms and conditions no matter what you write in the listing.

At the end of the day - the fact remains - most ebay sellers supply the proof of postage for lost items. Its just simply a fact. I wasn't saying its right, i wasn't saying its wrong. But it is nonetheless FACT.

Until ebay irons out many of its flaws, i doubt it will change.

There is not enough protection for honest sellers and there is not enough protection for buyers who get scammed. Buyers get scammed everyday and paypal does nothing. Sellers get scammed and lose money everyday. Its not foolproof and probably never will be, which is why everyone is discussing it here.

As ebay stands today, with its flaws. If people can't handle the flaws, they shouldn't shop or sell on there. Because the world is full of greedy people and unfortunately we can't nuke them away.

No it isn't most sellers now realise they are responsible for lost items, it is extremely rare for any seller not to understand their obligations. I think you are possibly alone in not understanding how this works.

No, we are discussing it here as we can't understand why you have such differing views from everyone else.
