I found the only way to stop my lot eating crisps and biscuits was simply not to buy them. The kids accepted this quite happily and now help themselves from the fruit bowl. This has led to arguements at the dentist. Apparently they shouldn't be eating fruit between meals as this is v.bad for them, leading to tooth erosion. My youngests is worst as she eats 3 apples a day and the odd orange or 3 and grapes and mango and bananas.
Tell me about it! I try to give DD a healthy diet and end up getting grief from the dentist about it.
Dentist - "Oh they shouldn't eat fruit between meals, bad for teeth etc"
Me - "So what do i give her, crisps?!
Dentist - "Well make sure she eats enough at meals to keep her full until the next one"
Me - "Erm, shes a child therefore she has a small stomach so cannot eat enough in one meal to keep her going til the next - between dinner and tea is 5 hours!"
I told her that its all very well telling me that but could she also tell DD's school who are constantly going on about 5-a-day in their healthy eating scheme - completely conflicting advice!

Thats hardly an adequate blanced diet for a child though. I appreciate that as an adult you would get away with that for a very short period of time but I couldn't feed my children that long term, or even short term come to that. Its almost all carbohydrate. Diets like that were the main way rickets, scurvey, beri beri and pallegra came about.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

yes im not suggesting you feed that to a child my idea of a book is to have balanced diets for cheap costs .

Hi Destiny - This thread is really interesting. Regarding your brother and OH being hungry in between meals......do you put enough protein in their dinner? Meat, fish, lentils etc? I find that if I miss out a food group at dinner time, I get EXTREMELY hungry.
Also, when they go to Kickboxing, why not give them a snack rather than a meal? A Banana slice in Brown Bread is a really really good energy snack and would leave them hungry for dinner when they get in. Another is chicken, sweetcorn and mayo in a sandwich - or a small Jacket potato and wouild take no time to put together. Try googling high energy snacks.
Sounds like you spend FAR too much time cooking - I cook 2 meals most days as OH eats differently to me but I woul be B*****ed if I would cook 4 meals.
I don't keep biscuits, chocolate or sweets in the house as we will both gorge n them so if we want them that much we can go out and buy them. Crisps aren't a problem here as I don't eat them and OH will usually only eat a pack a day.
Just a couple of ideas0
